Abstract

A framed, collapsible unit covered by a material to provide protective functions. Folding couplings and locking brackets provide the stability and rigidity when erected. When collapsed and folded, the unit is fully portable and transportable. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Multi-purpose portable weathershelter This invention relates to a Multi-purpose Portable Weathershelter.
The invention provides an open air shelter.
The shape also lends itself to being used as a portable football goal by changing the covering. It provides protection from the elements.
The prime inventive feature is that it is erected and collapsed as a single unit, without the problems of assembly and as such is wholly and easily portable and transportable.
According to the present invention there is provided a multi-purpose portable weathershelter, which can be erected and collapsed/folded by means of folding couplings and brackets. The shelter feature is provided by a cover, preferably material, for the framework which adds to the stability and rigidity of erected unit.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings as follows: Figure 1 shows front, plan and side elevations of framework.
Figure 2 shows framework in erected and folded down form from side angle (A, D, E) and plan (A, B, C).
Figure 3 and 4 shows complete unit with covering fitted in erected form with front and back views.
Figure 5 shows plan of covering.
The unit in the folded flat portable position (Fig. 2/A) is placed on an approximately horizontal surface. Folding couplings (Fig. 1/1) allow side frames (Fig. 1/2) to be pulled out to an angle of 90" (Figs. 2/B, 2/C) to the base, middle and top frames (Figs. 1/3, 1/4 and 1/5), which pulls the material base (Fig. 2/6) and Fig. 3/6) into position as per (Fig. 2/C).
By pulling the front top frame (Fig. 1/3) upwards as in (Figs. 2/D, 2/E) the unit is raised to its completed shape (Fig. 3 and Fig. 4).
The side frames (Fig. 1/2) are held in their correct position by brackets (Fig. 1/7) and the back centre frame (Fig. 1/4) by attachment to the back covering (Fig. 1/8).
Stability and rigidity is provided by securing side and top locking brackets (Fig. 1/9) and (Fig. 1/10).
Collapsing is by releasing locking brackets (Fig. 1/9) and (Fig. 1/10) and letting the unit collapse (Fig. 2/C), folding the frames (Fig.
1/2) as in (Fig. 2/B) to return to position (Fig.
2/A) from which the unit can be wrapped in the base material (Fig. 2/6) for ease of tran sportation.
1. The invention provides the facility of transforming a portable, collapsed material covered framework into an erected weathershelter without the need for assembly.
2. Referring to 1. above, the need for assembly is obviated by the combined use of folding couplings, locking brackets and centre frame supports.
3. The material covering, of which the base section is an essential feature, contributes to the stability and function of the erected unit.
4. Referring to 1. above, once assembled, the material base contributes to the stability of the unit when weight is applied.
