Abstract

A device for cutting annular gaskets comprises a vertical spindle (1), the upper end (26) of which fits the spindle of a drilling machine, and the lower end (2) of which has a point for engagement with the gasket material. A transverse beam (5) arranged to rotate with the spindle (1) has two arms (6, 7), each of which supports a corresponding cutting wheel (12, 13) which is adjustably mounted thereon via a bracket (10, 11) and a clamping screw (15). By setting the cutting wheels (12, 13) to the inner and outer radii of the desired annular gasket, with the aid of graduated scales (17) and indexes (16), the drilling machine can be utilised to cut the appropriate gasket. An auxiliary cutter (24, Fig. 4) for small circles may be mounted on the spindle (1, Fig. 4) about the point (2). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Gasket cutting device This invention relates to a device for the making of circular watertight gaskets which makes it possible to obtain circular gaskets in various sizes in a simple and economical way.
The object of the invention is to provide a device to fulfil the existing need to be able to have available quickly, watertight gaskets of various sizes to cope with the maintenance of machinery, equipment and installations, as it is often not easy to find on the market a gasket of the exact size required.
The invention accordingly provides a device for cutting circular gaskets, comprising a rotary member having a point for engaging the gasket material to be cut and intended for rotation about an axis perpendicular to the plane of said material, a transverse beam providing arms extending on opposite sides of the rotary axis of said rotary member and arranged to rotate therewith, and a pair of cutting members arranged for adjustable mounting upon said arms to describe respectively the inner and outer diameters of the gasket to be cut.
An attachment with a central cylindrical section with cutting zones at the base, for cutting small diameter gaskets, can be fixed to the vertical part mentioned above.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a part-fragmentary front elevation of a device according to the invention, Figure 2 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 1, Figure 3 is a part-sectional elevation on the line Ill-Ill of Fig. 1, Figure 4 is a front view detail corresponding to Fig. 1, showing how an attachment for small diameter cutting is fixed, Figure 5 is a part-sectional view of a cutting tool of the device of Figs. 1-3, Figure 6 is a schematic front view, showing the operation of the device of Figs. 1-3, and Figure 7 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 6.
Referring to the drawings, a gasket cutting device in accordance with the invention comprises a vertical element 1 which has a conical extremity 2, and a threaded section 3 for attachment of a part 24 for the cutting of small diameter openings, to which further reference is made below. The vertical element 1 has another threaded section 4 of greater diameter to which is secured a part 5 which has an internal screw thread. The part 5 comprises two arms 6 and 7, each of which has a corresponding elongated guide slot 8 and 9. Brackets 10 and 11 are arranged to hold circular cutters 12 and 13, each bracket 10 and 11 having a part which passes through the corresponding slot 8 or 9 and which is held in position by a plate 14 and screw 15 threaded into the bracket 10 or 11.By adjustment of the positions of the brackets 10, 11 in the slots 8, 9 the radial distances of the circular cutters from the extremity 2 can be set. Indicators 16 are located on the brackets 10, 11 and, together with graduated scales 17 on the arms 6 and 7, allow visual verification of the different diameters of the cutting function determined by the relative positions of the cutting tool brackets.
The circular cutters 12 and 13 are each fastened onto a rotary spindle 18, being held in place by nuts 19 and collars 20. The spindles 18 are set in bearings 21 mounted in slots in the bearers 10 and 11 and can thus rotate freely, together with the cutting tools, about horizontal axes.
The cutting tools 12 and 13 consist of discs 22 which have a set curve 23 on one side and are placed in the device in such a way that the cutting tool 13 which cuts the external diameter presents a curve towards the material cut off, while the cutting tool 12 which cuts the internal diameter, presents an opposite curve, shaping the material cut away from the centre of the gasket.
As shown on Fig. 4, the equipment which is the subject of this invention can incorporate a part 24 with a central cylindrical opening with a cutting edge 25 which is screwed into the lower part of the vertical element 1 and which is intended for use in the cutting of material for the production of small diameter gaskets.
The vertical element 1 is adapted at the upper part 26 to be fitted to the spindle of a drilling machine, which will give it the circular movement required for its operation.
1. A device for cutting circular gaskets, comprising a rotary member having a point for engaging the gasket material to be cut and intended for rotation about an axis perpendicular to the plane of said material, a transverse beam providing arms extending on opposite sides of the rotary axis of said rotary member and arranged to rotate therewith, and a pair of cutting members arranged for adjustable mounting upon said arms to describe respectively the inner and outer diameters of the gasket to be cut.
2. A device as claimed in Claim 1, in which said cutting members comprise cutting wheels mounted upon spindles of which the areas are at right angles to the# rotary axis of said rotary member, said spindles being freely rotatably mounted in bearings at lower ends of brackets of which the upper ends are slideably adjustably fastened in longitudinal grooves or slots of said arms.
3. A device as claimed in Claim 2 in which each said bracket comprises an index arranged
