Abstract
Mounting means for a conventional storage heater (4) comprises two sets of mounting brackets, an upper set (6) and a lower set (8). The lower set (8) are adapted to be positioned adjacent to a skirting board (10) secured in a conventional manner to the wall adjacent to the floor, said mounting brackets (8) also providing an upwardly-extending lip (9) which may be engaged with a formation (12) of the storage heater. The bracket engages the skirting board in a manner whereby part at least of the weight of the storage heater is transferred by the lower bracket (8) to the skirting board (10). In a modified form, the lower mounting bracket is additionally provided with an elongate flange by which the bracket (8) may be screwed to the skirting board. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Storage heaters
Description of invention
Storage heaters of modern design are becoming increasingly narrow, to allow them to be wall-mounted and to reduce the volume which they occupy. In consequence of this, the density of the heaters is increasing, which problem is exacerbated by a desirabilityto provide storage heaters which are capable of being charged over a period less than the present 7 hour off peak supply period.
Interiorwalls of many modern dwellings are of low density material, and difficulty is presently encountered in providing afixing means which may be screwed into such a wall, and which will support the storage heater with the security which is required.
According to this invention there is provided a method of supporting a storage heater which is secured to a wall, in which some ofthe weight ofthe heater is supported by a skirting board.
In this manner, roomswhich are (as is more often than not the case) provided with skirting boards secured to the wall adjacent to the floor, may be provided with wall-mounted storage heaters with increased reliability of support, and/or a reduction in the number of screw holes it is necessary to drill into the wall.
Preferably the heater is in part supported by the skirting board by the use of one or more brackets secured to the wall in contact with the skirting board, with which bracket or brackets the storage heater is engaged. In this manner minor irregularities in the skirting board may be more readily tolerated. Such brackets may be screwed into the wall to provide a lip resting on an upper edge of the skirting board, or may be screwed both into the wall and into the skirting board, to provide a lip with which the storage heater may be engaged.
According to this invention there is also provided, in combination, a storage heater and a mounting bracket by which the storage heater may be secured to a wall, the bracket being provided with a formation adapted to be engaged with an upper edge portion of a skirting board, whereby load transmitted to the bracket from the storage heater is in part at leasttransmitted to the skirting board, and a formation adapted to be engaged with a complementary formation on the storage radiator.
If desired the mounting bracket may also be adapted to be secured to the skirting board, such as by screws.
There will now be given a detailed description of a mounting means for a storage heater, and a method of mounting a storage heater on a wall, each of which is an embodiment of this invention, having been selected for the purposes of illustrating the invention by way of example.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is schematic elevational view showing one form of execution of the present invention; and Figure2illustrates a modified mounting bracket for use in the performance ofthis invention.
Figure 1 shows in side elevation a conventional storage heater 4, specifically adapted to be powered by an off peak supply of electricity, and which in conventional manner is adapted to be mounted on a wall of the room or place which it is to serve. The storage heater is adapted for use with two sets of mounting brackets, an upper set typically comprising two mounting brackets such as the mounting bracket 6 shown in Figure 1, and a lower set, typically comprising two brackets such as the bracketS.
The mounting brackets 6 of the upper set are adapted to be secured into a wall by the use of screws and plugs in conventional manner, being provided with lateral screw holes 7 adapted to be bolted to vertical flanges 8 of the storage heater in conventional manner.
The mounting brackets 8 of the lower set are also adapted to be secured into a wall beneath the mounting brackets of the upper set, again by the use of plugs and screws in conventional manner.
However the mounting brackets 8 are adapted to be positioned adjacent to a skirting board 10 secured in conventional mannerto the wall adjacent to the floor, said mounting brackets 8 also providing an upwardly-extending lip.
The storage heater is provided with a formation 12 adapted to be placed on the lip 8, to rest thereon, the lip 9 and formation 12 being such as to permit limited angular movement of the storage heater, during which movement the holes in the flange are moved into alignment with the holes 7 of the brackets 6.
In a modified form of lower mounting bracket 8a shown in Figure 2, the bracket is provided with an elongateflange 14 extending downwardlyfromthe lip 9a, the flange 14 being adapted to extend closeto an outer face of the skirting board (i.e. parallel to and spaced from the plane of the wall), said flange being provided with one or more holes whereby the flange, and hence the bracket 8a may be screwed to the skirting board.
It will of course be appreciated that the bracket shown in Figure 2 may if desired also seat on the upper edge ofthe skirting board, as is shown in
Figure 1.
In addition, rather than using a numberoflower mounting brackets, a single elongate mounting bracket may be used.
By the use of the invention a storage heater may conveniently be mounted on a wall, in a manner whereby the tendencyforthe mounting brackets to be pulled from the wall is reduced, permitting the use of simpler meansto securethe mounting brackets to the wall.
The features disclosed in theforegoing description, orthefollowing claims, orthe accompanying drawings, expressed in theirspecific forms or in terms of a means for performing the disclosed function, or a method or processfor attaining the disclosed result, oraclassorgroupof substances or compositions, as appropriate, may, separately or in any combination of such features, be utilised for realising the invention in diverse forms thereof.
