Abstract

Pre-rigged fishing tackle is held in a container (8) progressively loaded with tackle (6, 7) of a given size with the resilient line (1) held therein under resilient compression. A closure (9) has an anchorage (11) for one end (2) of the tackle by which such end is held available for progressive withdrawal of the tackle from the container as a reversal of the loading operation; this reduces the tendency of the tackle to snarl or tangle in the container. The anchorage may comprise a clip on the inner surface of the closure. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Fishing aid This invention relatestofishingaidsforanglersand, more particularly, relates two a holder for pre-rigged terminal fishing tackle.
Terminal fishing tackle generally consists of a length of line having, at the upper end, a terminal link swivel and, thereafter, hooks, booms, lures, feed dispensers, floats, weights etc.; depending on the type of fishing . The terminal tackle is attached to the fishing line proper by means of a split ring or link swivel. Afisherman usually rigs his terminal tackle in advance of going fishing and will often prepare several sets ofterminal tackle so asto be able to angle for different fish and to meet changing conditions. Even the simplest tackle can be difficult to right "on site" and, the more complicated the tackle, the harder it is to rig.
However, pre-rigged terminal tackle is very prone to snarl-up, i.e. becometangled, and itcan oftentake nearly as long to unsnarl pre-rigged terminal tackle asto rig it in the first place. In an attempt two mitigate against snarl-ups it is common practice to trap the or each hook in a cork and then to wind the rest ofthe tackle around the cork, but this does little to prevent tangling and knotting of the tackle. Forflyfishing it has also been proposed to provide a reel with slots to receive the hooks and then have the rest ofthetackle wound onto the reel, again the line still tends to become tangled and knotted.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a holderforterminal fishing tackle that overcomes the disadvantages of previous pre-rigged terminal fishing tackle holders.
According to the present invention a holder for terminal fishing pre-rigged on a resilient line comprises: a container to receive progressively loaded tackle of a given size with the line held therein under resilient compression; a closureforthe container; and an anchorage for one end of the tackle bywhich such end is held availableforprogressive withdrawal of the tackle from the container as a reversal ofthe loading operation; whereby tendency of the tackle to snarl or tangle is reduced. By this means, whilst no special provision is madeto locate and retain individual hooks, as is the practice with prior proposals, the resilience of the compressed fishing line tends to prevent movement of the tackle within the container and the anchorage of one end ofthetackle prevents it from knotting.
When the tackle is withdrawn for use, byfirst attaching the anchored tackle end to a fishing line, the terminal tackle will emerge with little or no snarl-up; individual hooks may be snarled, butthese are easily unhooked from the adjacent tackle, there is no knotting ormajortangling.
In a preferred embodiment, the container is an elongate, close-bottomed tube oftransparent plastics material, the closure is a bung and the tackle anchorage is a radial slot provided in the bung to receive and retain one end ofthetackle adjacent a link swivel and leave the link swivel free outside the holder available for attachment to a fishing line. Thus the terminal tackle can be attached before it is removed from the holder. The transparent container allowsthehousedtackleto be readily identified.
A holder for pre-rigged terminal tackle in accordance with the present invention also advantageously providesforthe sale of commercially produced terminal tackle; thus making available to the less skilled angler a whole range of terminal tackle rigs.
The invention is illustrated in the Drawing which is an exploded perspective view of an exemplary sea-fishing terminal tackle rig being withdrawn from atackle holder.
As shown, a sea-fishing terminal tackle rig consists of a length 1 of monofilament nylon fishing line to one end 2 of which is tied a linkswivel 3 and in the other end 4 of which is knotted a loop 5; forthe later attachment of weights (not shown). Hooks 6 and featherlures7 aretied atintervalstothe line 1.
Atackle holder comprises an elongate, closed-bottomed cylindrical tube 8 of transparent plastics material with a bung 9 to close the mouth 10 ofthe tube. The bung 9 is moulded from plastics material to have a radial slot 11 extending the length ofthe bung.
Tackle is loaded loop end 4first into the tube 8 and the line end 2 is fitted into slot 11 sothatthe link swivel 3 protrudes above the bung when it has been fitted into the tube mouth 10.
Choice oftube diameter and length in comparison to the size of individual tackle components and the length of the rigged tackle enables the tackle to be packed quite tightly into the tube. The resilient compression ofthe monofilament nylon line 1 tends to keep the tackle stationary within the tu be to prevent it from tangling and the line is prevented from knotting by the anchorage of the line swivel end 2 in the bung 9.
Loading the tackle may be helped by first winding the tackle onto a conical former (not shown), introducing the wound former into the tube and then removing the former to leave the tackle housed in the tube.
In an un-illustrated embodiment, the slotted bung may be replaced by a cap having an anchorage, such as a snap action clip, on its inside. Thus the tackle end 2 and the link swivel 3 would be anchored and held within the tube but, on removal of the cap, the linkswivelwould beavailableforattachmenttoa fishing line before the rest of the tackle is withdrawn from the tube.
