Driving; speed-regulating and indicating. - A weight-motor especially adapted for rotating the turntables of phonographs comprises a weight 11, Fig. 1, carried on the end of a lever 9 and arranged, on falling, to turn the shaft 3 by means of a tooth 13 engaging a ratchet portion 6 on the gear wheel 5, which latter actuates a multiplying train of gears and thereby rotates the turntable 28. The motor is reenergized by a lever 33 which is pivotally mounted on the shaft 3 and the end of which projects through a slot 34 in the cabinet 1. The lever 33 carries a pawl 35 which engages a segmental rack 36 mounted to turn on the shaft 3. The rack 36 has a plain portion 37 provided with an arm 38 which is connected to the lever 9 by a link 39, thereby coupling the levers 9, 33. The arm 38 and link 39 are arranged so as to be extensible in order to suit different sized casings 1, and the radial position of the weight 11 on the arm 9 may also be varied. A governor 82, Fig. 7, mounted on a spindle 79 and provided with a brake-disc 83 is driven from the turntable shaft 27 and has a regulator comprising an arm 84, Fig. 8, pivoted at 85 and provided with a pad 87 to engage the disc 83. The end of the arm 84 remote from the pad 87 extends into the path of a broad vane 88 mounted on a shaft 89 which can be set by means of a knob 99 and an indicator 101 to alter the turntable speed bv varying the position at which the arm 84 is held fast with the pad 87 against the brakedisc 83. In a modification, a weighted arm 119, Figs. 16 and 17, in falling rotates ratchet wheels 111, 112 and through gearing the turntable 135. The turntable speed is controlled by an adjustable band 139 on a brake-disc 138. The weighted arm 119 may be reset in position by a treadle 147 and linkwork 149 - - 153.
