Abstract

A set of protective covers for vehicle components to be covered during repairs comprises a seat cover and supplementary covers, such as a steering-wheel cover and a floor cover the other covers of each set being accommodated in a pocket in one of the items. A multiplicity of seat covers (or others of the covers) are formed in a web and separable at perforated lines, the web being formed into a roll.

Description

SPECIFICATION Set of protective covers (service set) for vehicle components to be covered during repairs The invention concerns a set of protective covers for vehicle components to be covered during repairs, said set consisting of a seat cover plus supplementary pieces such as for example a steering-wheel cover, a floor cover, and other pieces intended for protection or cleaning.
A set of protective covers of this type is usually called a service set. It is employed to cover up the essential interior components and protect them from dirt while vehicles are being repaired in shops. Usually belonging to such a set are at least one seat cover along with other pieces such as for example a steering-wheel cover and a floor cover, and these are spread over the vehicle components to be protected.
Packing sets of this type in pouches, which then have to opened before use, is known.
The pouches that the pieces are packed in are not used further and are thrown out with the trash. Packages consisting of pouches that can be opened and closed by means of a snap for example are also known.
The object of the invention is to simplify keeping and handling a supply of service sets in such a way that a complete set can be extracted from the supply when used. Since packaging material will be saved and manufacture made less expensive by means of extensive automation, a complete service set can be distributed cost-effectively.
This object is attained in accordance with the invention in that the pieces belonging to one set are accommodated in sets in a pocket formed out of one of the pieces of the set or in a foldover. Since a service set of this type includes no superfluous pieces such as a package, it will be simple to handle and, as said, inexpensive to maufacture and distribute.
It is practical for the bags created by one protective-covering piece to be fastened together, in such a way that they can be separated, by perforations, to accommodate the other pieces in the set, and to be capable of being wrapped up into a supply roll. A supply roll of this type is especially appropriate for shop operations because one set can be torn off the roll as needed and will contain all its requisite pieces.
The bags created from the protective-cover piece can, however, alternatively be piled into a supply stack along with the interior pieces of the set. Service sets of this type can be supplied individually to the consumer.
It is practical for the pieces belonging to each set to be piled on top of the seat cover to make up a cmplete set, with a number of such sets fastened together at perforations into a supply roll that they can be torn off from as needed and unpacked in accordance with their application. Since the seat cover is usually the largest piece in a set, it will readily accommodate the other pieces. Seat covers have foldovers and/or pockets that will accommodate the other pieces in a set. The other pieces can be inserted mechanically when the seat covers are manufactured.
It is, however, alternatively possible to fold the floor cover together into a pocket and to accommodated the other pieces in the set therein.
The theory behind the invention allows for several potential embodiments. Some will now be described with reference to the attached drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a partly unwrapped supply roll consisting of seat covers, each with two pockets, whereby separately illustrated floor and steering-wheel covers can be accommodated in one or both pockets, Figure 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but with the supply roll consisting of a series of attached seat covers that have only one pocket or foldover, to be draped over the backrest, along one longitudinal edge, Figure 3 is a similar view of a supply roll consisting like the one illustrated in Fig. 1 out of seat covers and already provided with floor covers and steering-wheel covers, whereby the floor cover and steering-wheel cover are piled losely on the seat cover and secured only by the layers of the roll, Figure 4 illustrates a supply roll like that illustrated in Fig. 3 but in which the floor cover and steering-wheel cover are both inserted into one pocket, Figure 5 illustrates a supply roll consisting of seat covers that are folded longitudinally, with the other pieces in the set inserted between the longitudinal foldover and a filling foldover, and Figure 6 illustrates a supply roll consisting of pockets that are later to be separated and torn open in order to create a floor cover.
One service set consists of a seat cover 2 and of other pieces such as for example a steering-wheel cover, a floor cover, etc. A number of these can be combined into a supply roll or stack to constitute an inventory or retain packages for use in shops or for sale to consumers.
Other pieces can of course also be included in the set. The seat covers can have one or more pockets and may or may not have perforations for a headrest. What is called a compact roll, on which a large number of service sets or seat covers can be rolled and from which they can be separated as needed as perforations, is practical for storage.
The supply roll 1 illustrated in Fig. 1 consists of a series of flat-folded seat covers 2 of plastic sheeting fastened together with a transverse perforated weld 10. The individual seat covers 2 are very easy to separate from each other. The ends of the seat covers, or the longitudinal edges of the rolled-up web, in this embodiment have a foldover 5 and 6.
Foldovers 5 and 6 create pockets for draping the cover over the front edge and over the backrest of a seat. The embodiment illustrated in Fig. 2 has a foldover 5 only along one side for draping over the backrest, with the other end hanging loose over the seat.
Fig. 4 illustrates a seat cover similar to that illustrated in Fig. 1, with, however, the other pieces in the set, specifically floor cover 11 and steering-wheel cover 12, already inserted in a foldover pocket. The advantage is that, when a seat cover 2 is torn from supply roll 1, the other pieces will be secured against loss on the pocket created by foldover 5. In the simplest case, however, it is alternatively possible just to pile the other pieces loosely on the seat cover, so that they will be pressed tight between the layers of the roll when the covers are rolled up.
In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 5, in which seat covers 2 are folded, the other pieces in the set can also be inserted into the fold. It is practical for the seat covers to have a filler foldover to keep the roll equally thick at each end.
Fig. 6 illustrates another possibility. A pocket 13 is created from each floor cover with if necessary a folded-over closure flap 14. A number of pocket 13 can be combined, separated by perforations 15 into web that is to be wrapped up into a roll. The pocket is produced by weak welded points parallel to perforations 1 5 that can be separated without damaging the material. Each pocket 13 can contain a seat cover along with a steeringwheel cover and other pieces.
Once the set has been inserted into the pocket, the insertion opening can be sealed, with another easy-to-release welded point for example. Once the pocket has been emptied, the sides are separated in such a way that the floor cover that constituted the pocket will assume its operational form and can be spread over the vehicle floor that is to be protected.
Other accessories for the set, like work gloves, head coverings, drapes, and rags, can be course also be kept in the pockets.
The individual pieces in a set, usually a seat cover 2, a floor cover 11, and a steeringwheel cover 12, are in themselves known and accordingly will not be described in detail. It is practical for them to be manufactured out of sheet plastic. They can, however, of course also be manufactured out of other materials such as paper etc. The seat cover 2 can be manufactured in many different ways, producing one or more pockets. They can if necessary have other perforations in the vicinity of the backrest pocket to allow access for a headrest.
The supply rolls are easy to handle because the seat covers can be torn off individually as needed and accommodating the other parts of the set, such as the floor cover and steeringwheel cover. This is a special advantage in shop operations.
It is also possible to fold the floor cover up into a pocket and for certain applications stitch-weld it together, inserting the other pieces in the set-- the steering-wheel cover and the floor cover. A service set of this type can be presented to the driver as he leaves the shop as is often conventional for advertising purposes.
Since there will be no superfluous parts like packages or unused pouches, the level of trash will be kept low. No special pouches will be necessary for packaging disassembled motor-vehicle components surrendered to the driver as he leaves the shop because they can be wrapped in the now unused seat cover.
A wide range of embodiments is basically possible, the following by way of example: (a) seat covers folded in the middle into a compact supply roll with or without a filler foldover and with two pockets, whereby the rest of the set is packed in one or both pockets, (b) a compact roll with or without a filler foldover and with two pockets, whereby the other pieces are inserted loose in the supply roll, (c) a wide roll of seat covers consisting of an unfolded web of material with two pockets, whereby the other pieces of the set are accommodated in one or both pockets, (d) a supply roll like that in (c) but with the other pieces of the set inserted loose into the middle of the roll, (e) a supply roll of seat covers with one pocket containing the other pieces of the set, (f) a supply roll like that in (e) but with the other pieces of the set inserted into the middle of the roll, (g) a supply roll consisting of pockets folded up out of a floor cover as illustrated in Fig. 6, or (h) a supply stack of pockets made out of floor covers.
