Abstract

The fastener has a handle part 6, at least one pivot point 3 and a locking nib 2, the portion of the fastener between the pivot point and nib being resiliently flexible in the plane of rotation of the device so as to allow the nib 2 to ride over a fixed abutment on the door or window jamb. The fastener is an integral moulding of plastics material, and the resilience of the nib is provided by forming slots in the arm between the nib 2 and the pivot 3. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to window locking devices This invention relates to a window - or door - locking device, especially for louvre windows, of the type in which a pivot point is situated between a handle portion and a nib which is adapted to lock into our against a keeper attached to a door- orwindow-jamb.
Such devices, made of metal or alloy are already known but do not provide sufficient flexibility for many uses, especially where the locking action re quiressomeresilianceinthe locking device, for ex ample, where the nib needstooverrideafixedabut- ment on the jamb.
This invention consists in awindowordoor- locking device which rotates about a pivot point situated between a handle part and a locking nib, characterised in that the locking nib is separated from the pivot point by means of an arm which is resiliently flexible in the plane of rotation ofthe device.
Preferably the device is injection moulded, as a single integral unit, from a suitable plastics material e.g. an acetal copolymer, and thewallthickness of the portion ofthe moulding between the pivot point and the nib is adjusted so as to provide flexibility in the plane ofthe moulding.
Preferably the wall thickness is reduced by providing an elongated slot in the moulding between the pivot point and the nib.
Preferably the handle portion hasa rounded end.
The invention will now be further illustrated and described with reference to the accompanying two figures of drawing in which: Figure lisa plan view of a window or door locking device in accordance with this invention and Figure2 is a section on the line A-A Figure 1.
With reference to Figure 1,thedevicehasaroun- ded handle part 6 separated from the anchoring nib 2 by pivot points3 in theform of a hole and slotrespectively. The web 1 between pivot point 3 and nib 2 is ofthin-walled plastics material and has an elongated slot which makes it flexible in the plane ofthe wall oftheweb 1. In this way flexibility is achieved between wall portions 4 arld 5, allowing them to re siliently close together when the nib is engaged with a suitable keeper(notshown) attachedto a dooror windowjamb by nib angle 2a overriding a fixed abut mentwhich abuts with 2b.The whole item is preferably injection moulded as a single piece of resilient plastics material, and the holes and slots are moulded in as integral features.
1. A window - or door - locking device, which rotates about a pivot point situated between a handle part and locking nib, characterised in that the locking nib is separated from the pivot point by means of an arm which is resiliently flexible in the plane of rotation ofthe device.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1,whereinthede- vice is formed from a single integral moulding and the wall thickness ofthe portion ofthe moulding between the pivot point and the nib is adjusted so as to provide the desired flexibility.
3. Adevice as claimed in claim 2whereinthewall thickness is reduced by providing an elongated slot in the moulding, between pivot point and nib.
4. A device as claimed in claim 3 wherein there are two pivot points, physically in the forms of an aperture and a slot, integrallyformed in the moulding.
5. Awindow-ordoor- locking devicesubstantially as hereinbefore described, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
