Systems for continuous-current motors only.- The speed of a series motor is varied automatically in accordance with the load by a field diverter resistance controller actuated by a torque-measuring device. In the diagram, the field 8 of the motor 1 has a diverter resistance 11 controlled by a sliding contact 13. A planet-gear 19 through which the motor drives the load moves the sliding contact against a spring 18 in proportion to the transmitted torque, and thus correspondingly adjusts the resistance. After passing the limit of regulation, the slider meets additional contacts 27 which open a circuit breaker.
