Abstract

218,423. Wade, H., (Jacob, S. M., and Field, J. H.). April 26, 1923. Handles.-Relates to golf clubs, cricket bats, tennis rackets, &c. of the type wherein a balance weight E is mounted on a screwthreaded rod B arranged in a slot A<1> in the handle A, the weight being held against rotation by projections E<1> engaging grooves A<2> in the handle and being movable by rotation of the rod, and consists in forming the weight as a helix of resilient material having an internal thread slightly different from that on the rod so that the weight clings to the rod. Rings of rubber C, C<1> are held in grooves in the rod to prevent vibration. Lengthwise movement of the rod is prevented by a transverse pin D engaging a circumferential groove B<3> in the rod. The Provisional Specification describes several alternative constructions, in one of which the weight E is replaced by a series of balls which engage the grooves A<2> and threads in the rod B; in another construction the rod B is dispensed with and a projection on the weight passes through a slot in the handle and is engaged by a locking-nut; in a third construction bands of diverse weights are sprung into grooves in the handle.
