Description

SPECIFICATION Wallpapering Tool This invention relates to a tool for use in wallpapering or in application of other decorative, insulating or protective sheets to walls, ceilings or other surfaces.
Conventionally decorators have used soft brushes for applying wallpaper to avoid creasing or tearing which might result if less gentle techniques were employed. Rollers are also used for sealing the edges of wallpaper strips. Hitherto a decorator has had to carry a separate roller and brush, resulting in a loss of time when one or other is mislaid. This is particularly troublesome when working from a ladder or trestle or when a number of people are sharing the equipment.
According to the present invention a wallpapering tool comprises a brush having a handle, a roller being located in a recess in the handle.
Use of a brush having an integral roller is advantageous in that the roller cannot be mislaid when the brush is being used. Location of the roller within a recess avoids possible damage to the wallpaper which might occur in use of the brush, for example in corners or other confined spaces.
The roller is preferably located at a corner of the handle.
The invention is further described by means of example and not in any limitative sense, with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Figure 1 shows a tool in accordance with this invention; Figure 2 is an end elevation of the tool; and Figures 3 and 4 are corresponding views of a further embodiment of the invention.
The tool shown in the Figures comprises a handle 1 having a generally rectangularortrapezoid configuration, bristles 2 being secured to the longest edge of the handle. An indentation 3 serves to facilitate holding the handle. A roller 4 mounted on an axle 5 between brackets 6, is located in a recess 7 so that it does not project more than half its area beyond the outline of the handle. The roller may be composed of wood, plastics or any other suitable material. A wiper (not shown) may contact the roller to remove wallpaper paste from the surface of the latter.
The roller may be removable to facilitate cleaning.
Figures 3 and 4 are corresponding views of an alternative embodiment of the invention like parts to Figures 1 and 2 bear the same reference numerals.
A cavity 8 extends into the body of the handle 1 to store a pencil, pen, sharpening stone or other tool. A screw cap 9 serves to prevent the pencil etc. from falling out. Cavities may be provided in alternative or additional parts of the handle.
A heel 10 formed from wooden, plastics, metal or other hard material serves as a hammer for flattening any objects which may become lodged beneath wallpaper or to crush lumps of wallpaper paste under the paper.
A sharpening stone or sharpening wheels 11 serve to facilitate sharpening of scissors, knives or the like.
It wili be appreciated that not all of the features shown in Figures 3 and 4 need be incorporated in the tool and that the location and juxtaposition of these features can be varied within the scope of this invention.
1. Awallpapering tool comprising a brush having a handle, a roller being located in a recess in the handle.
2. Atool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the roller is located at a corner of the handle.
3. Atool as claimed in any preceding claim, including a cavity extending into the body of the handle adapted to store a pencil or other tool.
4. A tool as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the handle includes a heel arranged to serve as a hammer.
5. Atool as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the handle includes a sharpening stone.
6. A wallpapering tool substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
