Abstract

A bandsaw which can be compacted after use for ease of transportation and storage preferably comprises a main case, a detachable power unit, a machine table and a base stabiliser. After use the machine table and base stabiliser may be repositioned one on each side of the main case and then locked in place by a slidable blade guard (Figure 2). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Pack-away band-saw This invention relates to an electrically powered band-saw which by virtue of a blade band being supported and driven by an appropriate number of wheels is able to carry out straig ht, curved and angled cutting operations on various different materials.
Band-saws are already available on a small scale for use in the small workshop environment. The aim of the present invention is to provide such a band-saw which is both portable and suitable for storage.
With this aim in view the invention is directed to enabling the band-sawto be compacted after use.
An example of a band-saw in accordance with the invention is shown on the accompanying photographs.
Photograph 1 shows the bandsaw in its operational mode being powered by a detachable power unit in the form of an electric drill, having all the necessary facilities for effective use.
Photograph 2 shows the same band-saw in its portable mode where the electric drill has been removed and both the machine table and base stabilizing shoe have been repositioned on to either side of the main case with their respective flaps overlapping within the 'throat' ofthe unit, and the blade guard sliding down to lockthem both in.
Figure 3 is a view (notto scale) of the band-saw's basic arrangement of internal working parts.
Being predominantly manufactured by plastic injection moulding every necessary functional and aesthetic detail is included to produce an attractive marketable product.
Internal transmission of power to the band-saw drive wheel 2 is by means of gear cogs 4, 6 and 8 where cog 4screws on to the electric drill - replacing the drill chuck- and by means of cog 6 drives cog 8 which is attached to the rear side of the drive wheel.
Cog 6 enables the drill to be conveniently inserted into the band-saw on its operational side by reversing the direction of travel of saw blade 1 Ofor correct cutting. Blade tension is adjusted by means of a screw operated vertical slide unit (12) on which the lower support wheel is pivoted. The necessary ratio of speeds between that ofthe drill and the band-saw is accommodated in the gearing.
1) A bandsaw which can be compacted after use for ease of transportation and storage.
2) A bandsaw as in claim 1), which is powered by a detachable power unit.
3) A bandsaw as in claims 1) & ),which has a machine table which can be repositioned after use for transportation and storage.
4) A bandsaw as in claims 1) & 2), which has a meansofenablingtheunit, though unclampedto stand stable whilst in operation.
5) Abandsawasdescribed herein with reference to the photos submitted with the patent specification and application.
