Description

SPECIFICATION A retaining element for retaining at least one pipe or cable This invention relates to a retaining element and particularly, but not exclusively, to such a retaining element for retaining at least one pipe or cable, comprising a bearing zone adapted to be fixed to a support, and a retaining zone comprising two clamping elements opposite one another and interconnected in their bottom zone, said elements being connected on either side of the bottom zone to a resilient intermediate member connected to the bea ring zone.
The prior art already comprises two clamping elementsofsubstantiallytriangularshapewhich are snap-engaged in a locking position by the insertion of a pipe ortube (French Patent No. 1 593 626).This known structure, therefore, is suitable only for fixing a single pipe. Its range of application is therefore necessarily greatly limited. Also, the two clamping elements are mutually connected only in their bottom zone so that they may open up undesirably in the event of increased stress.
An object of the invention is to provide a retaining elementthatcan readily hold together even a plurality of pipes in such a mannerthatthe pipes are perfectly held in the retaining element even in the event of increased stress.
The present invention includes a retaining element for retaining at least one pipe or cable, said element having a retaining zone comprising two clamping elements disposed opposite one another for defining a cavity therebetween for accommodating at least one pipe or cable, said clamping elements being permanently interconnected at a bottom zone of said cavity and adapted to be interconnected by snapengagement elements at a top zone ofthe cavity, at least one resilient strip extending from at least one of said clamping elements into said cavity.
The invention also includes a retaining element adaptedforfixing at least one pipe or cable, comprising a bearing zone adapted to be fixed to a support, and a retaining zone comprising two clamping elements disposed opposite one anotherfor defining a cavitytherebetween, said clamping elements being interconnected in their bottom zone and connected on either side of the bottom zone to a resilient intermedi ate mem ber con nected to the bearing zone, wherein the clamping elements are provided with at least one resilient strip extending into said cavity and the clamping elements can be interconnected, in the top zone, by snap-engagement elements provided thereon.
The advantage ofthis invention is that the resilient strip enables even a plurality of pipes to be fixed inside the retaining element without their being able to shift relatively to one another because the resilient strips act on the corresponding pipes, the locking provided by the snap-engagement elements also interconnecting the clamping elements in theirtop zone and in their bottom zone. Thus the pipes cannot inconve nientlyescapefromthe retaining element.
According to one embodiment ofthe invention, the resilient strip projects freely into the inner cavity contained between the open clamping elements. This enables a resilient strip to be disposed in the end zone of one of the clamping elements and two resilient strips in the bottom zone ofthetwo clamping elements. This structure enables a plurality of pipes or cablesofdifferentdiametersto befixed in one operation by means of the retaining element according to the invention, by inter-connecting the two clamping elements after assembly so that said pipes orcablescannotescape.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the resilient strips may have transverse ribs on their bottom surface, thus improving the action on the pipes forfixing. In this case the width of the strips can belessthanthewidthoftheclamping elements.
According to yet another embodiment of the invention, the snap engagement means may be coupled afterthestyleofhooksin ordertoconnectthe two clamping elements in the closed condition. In that case, one ofthe clamping elements may comprise a plurality of spaced transverse notches externally in its end zonewhilethe other clamping element has a snap-engagement hook adapted to be inserted in one ofthe notches. This gives simple locking of the two clamping elements in the closed state, thus prevent ing any unwanted opening and escape ofthe pipes via the top zone.
According to another embodiment ofthe invention, the resilient intermediate member may have two opposite ribs atthe connection to the bearing zone.
also, one of the clamping elements which hasa snap-engagement hook may have a step in the central zone.
Exemplified embodiments ofthe invention will now be described in greater detail without limiting force and with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein: Fig. 1 is a front view of the retaining element according to the invention in the open condition and Fig. 2 is a side view ofthe retaining element shown in Fig. 1.
The retaining element shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises essentially a bearing zone 1, a retaining zone 2, and an intermediate member 5. The retaining zone 2 comprises two opposite curved clamping elements 3 and 4. The intermediate member 5 has a resilient configuration with two resilient arms 10 and 11 reinforced in the bottom zone by a rib 20. In the top zone the resilient arms 10 and 11 are connected to the clamping elements 3 and 4 in connecting zones 12 and 13.
A resilient strip 6 is disposed in the end zone of the clamping element3. There are also two resilient strips 7 and 8 in the bottom zone of the two clamping elements 3 and 4. These strips each project freely into the bottom cavity 14 contained between the open clamping elements 3 and 4and they may have different lengths. On their bottom surface the strips 6, 7aniScompnsetransverse ribs 15.
'I het~?ro clamping elements 3 and 4 are intercon nected by a cross-member in the bottom zone 9. The bearing zone 1 may be in anyform, e.g. intheform of a stud or bolt or any other connecting element, to provide a connection to a support, which is not shown in detail.
Thetwo clamping elements 3 and 4 have snap engagementmeansintheform of notches 16 and a snap-engagement hook 17 respectively. In this case one ofthe clamping elements 3 has a plurality of spaced transverse notches 16 externally in its end zone, while the other clamping element4 has an engagement hook 17 corresponding to the shape of the notches.
In the bottom zone the intermediate member 5 has two oppositeflanges 18 and 19.
For assembly purposes, pipes, which are not shown in detail, are disposed in the cavity 14contained between the two clamping elements 3 and 4, and the resilient strips 6, 7 and 8 act on the pipes.
In response to additional pressurethetwo clamping elements 3 and 4 turn relatively to one another and engage in the closed position, the resilient arms 10 and 11 of or the oftheintermediatemember5holdingthetwo clamping elements 3 and 4 in the closed position. In addition, the snap-engagement catch or hook 17 ofthe clamping element4 enters one ofthe notches 16 of the clamping element3to give a positiveforce-fit between the two clamping elements in the bottom zone 9 and in thetop zone by means ofthe snap-engagement elements, i.e. the notches 16 and the catch 17. The resilient strips 6, 7 and 8 are thus situated atthe outer periphery of the respective pipes or cables so thatthe latter cannotturn inside the closed clamping elements 3 and 4. This provides the advantageous possibility ofenabling a plurality of pipes to be fixed in one operation with the retaining element according to the invention, the two clamping elements 3 and 4 being interconnected both in the top zone and in the bottom zone. As a resultthe pipes cannot undesirably escape from the clamping elements 3 and 4.
As shown in Fig. 1,theclamping element4having the catch 17 may have a step 21 in its central zone.
The retaining element according to the invention is advantageously made entirely of plastics in one piece, resulting in fast and economic manufatcture, the retaining element also being adapted to fix a plurality of pipes of different diameters.
