Abstract

A collar is made from a rectangular piece of absorbent paper, textile material or plastics material, which may be lined or unlined by folding it in such a way as to form a multilayered annular member, which is of the correct size to fit the neck of a container for liquid, such as a bottle, for the purpose of collecting drips from that container when liquid is poured. A triangular portion folded about line 15 can be used as a lip portion facing outwardly from the bottle while a lower folded portion 16 may hold a liner in position (14, Fig. 1C). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Collar for placement around the neck of a container for liquid This invention relates to a collar which can be placed around the neck of a container for liquid, such as a bottle, for collecting drips when liquid is poured from the container.
It is known to wrap a towel or the like around the neck of a wine bottle to collect any drips issuing from the pouring opening and to prevent them running down the bottle.
However, the use of a towel or the like for this purpose is unsightly and the towel, after frequent use, becomes soiled and has to be replaced with a clean one.
The present invention aims to provide a simple inexpensive collar which can be used on a container and then disposed of.
According to the present invention there is provided a collar which can be placed around the neck of a container for liquid for collecting drips when liquid is poured from the container, comprising a sheet of material folded in such a maner as to form an annular member which can be placed around the neck of the container and having a lip portion.
Some emodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of examples, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 illustrates diagrammatically the steps involved in producing a first embodiment of a collar according to the present in-.
vention; Figure 2 illustrates diagrammatically some of the steps involved in producing a second embodiment of a collar according to the present invention.
In producing the embodiment shown in Fig.
1 a rectangular sheet of material 10 of approximately 25cm by 12.5cm is folded at step a about a centre line 11. The bottom right hand corner is then folded about a line 12 at step b which is'parallel to a diagonal. At step c the sheet is folded about a line 13 a liner 14 is provided. At step d the sheet is folded about a line 15. At step e the folded sheet has its bottom corners 16 brought together by bending the folded sheet about an axis 17 and the corners 16 are secured together to form the collar shown in step e. The resulting collar can be placed around the neck of a bottle and the triangular portion which was folded about line 15 can be used as a lip portion located on the underside of the neck of the bottle when pouring liquid from the bottle so that any drips from the opening of the bottle are caught by the collar and prevented from running down the bottle. The sheet 10 is preferably formed of a liquid absorbant paper or textile material so as to absorb any drops of liquid.
Fig. 2 shows some of the steps involved in producing an embodiment which is similar to that of Fig. 1. At step a in the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the sheet 10 is folded inwardly about lines 18 and at step b is folded about a line 19. The botton edge is then folded about a line 20 at step c a liner 21 is provided. A step d the leaves of the folded sheet are folded about lines 22 and at step e the sheet is folded about axis 23 and the edges secured together.
The sheet 10 in both embodiments may be made of paper or a textile material and where a lining is provided, this is preferably disposable. Alternatively, the sheet material may comprise a plastics material.
1. It is a Collar to fit the neck of a container for liquid such as a bottle.
2. It is folded to form an annular member.
3. It collects drips when liquid is poured from the container.
4. It is made from absorbent material.
5. It is made from non absorbent material which is lined with absorbent material.
6. It is simple, practical and inexpensive.
7. It is made from disposable or non disposable material.
8. It is made from material of any colour.
9. It is ribboned or decorated to enhance its appearance.
10. It does not fall off when the container is tilted to pour the liquid.
