Connecting and disconnecting arrangements.-In belt-shifters, a beltengaging roller A is carried on a spindle K in crank-arms B<1> secured on a shaft L supported in bearings in a forked bracket secured to a turntable H turning on a vertical axis in a stationary frame M. A hand-wheel or lever C is secured to the shaft L. When the belt is to be shifted, the wheel &c. C is grasped, the turntable is swung to incline the roller A to the line of the belt and tEe shaft is then rotated to press the roller against the flat face of the belt.
