Abstract
A process for making sanitary tableware which comprises introducing a cereal substance into a mold and forming the cereal substance at a temperature of 130-180 degrees C and under a pressure of 120-300 kg/sq.cm for 5-10 seconds. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Process for Making Sanitary Tableware
This invention relates to a process for making sanitary tableware, particularly to a process for making sanitary tableware by using cereal substances.
It has been known that tableware made of foamed plastic materials are convenient for use in the food shops and food industries. They need not be washed since they are cheap and can be discarded after being used one time. In addition, they also eliminate the problems arising from reusing washed dishes in food shops which may sometimes be stained with the remaining detergent and which may sometimes cause infection. However, the waste disposal of such tableware has caused a serious pollution problem.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel process for making tableware which is cheap and need not be washed.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved sanitary tableware which is cheap and need not be washed. The non-washed waste tableware will not cause the pollution problem since it can be fed to animals and can also fertilize the soil when buried under the ground.
These and other objects can be achieved in accordance with the present invention through the provision of a process which comprises: introducing a cereal substance into a mold; and forming the cereal substance at a temperature of 130-180 degrees C and under a pressure of 120- 300 kg/sq.cm for 510 seconds. Preferably, the cereal substance is selected from rice and wheat. If the cereal substance is a powder it should be formed into grains before being introduced into the mold. Alternatively, some suitable additives can be added in the cereal substance before it is formed.
The present exemplary preferred embodiment will be described in detail with reference to the following drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a bowl made according to the present invention;
Fig. 1a is a fragmentary enlarged view of the bowl;
Fig. 2 is a diagram showing the process according to the invention; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing how the bowl tears when the hot water is put in it for a period.
Example
75 grams of rice grains is placed in a heated mold which imparts a bowl-shape. A bowl is formed when a pressure of 120-300 kg/sq.cm is applied to the mold at a temperature of 130-180 degrees Cover 510 sec. Since the rice grain itself contains about 12.3% water, when the grains are pressurized at 130-180 degrees C, the starch existing on the surfaces of the grains is formed into a paste, binding the grains together to form into a bowl 10 shown in
Fig. 1 in which numeral 11 represents a grain and numeral 12 represents the binder formed of the paste. After the bowl is formed, it is removed from the mold. Air bubbles will not form in the products since the forming process is done for a few seconds at a certain temperature and pressure.The abovedescribed procedure may be adapted to all kinds of rice grains.
If the cereal substance is in powdered form, for example wheat flour, it must be made into grains by being mixed with water and then dried. The grains are then molded in a way similar to that described in the above example. The procedure for making the tableware is illustrated in Fig. 2. It can be appreciated that the mold can be heated by means of a high frequency heating apparatus. If desired, the cereal substance can be mixed with some suitable additives, such as edible coloring materials.
It can be noted that the process according to the invention can produce various kinds of tabieware except for those used for cooking purposes.
According to the tests made by the inventor, the tableware formed by the process gradually tears, as shown in Fig. 3, when subjected for about 40 minutes to hot water of a temperature of about 100 degrees C. After the tableware is used, it can be fed to animals or used for alcoholic fermentation. If it is discarded and buried in the ground, it can fertilise the soil. Therefore, the pollution caused by using conventional foamed plastic tableware will occur if the invention is utilized.
With the invention thus explained, it is apparent that various modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the invention. It is therefore intended that the invention be limited as indicated in the appended claims.
1. A process for making sanitary tableware comprising: introducing a cereal substance into a mold; and forming the cereal substance at a temperature of 130-180 degrees C and under a pressure of 120-300 kg/sq.cm for 510 seconds.
2. A process for making sanitary tableware as claimed in Claim 1,wherein said cereal substance is selected from rice and wheat.
3. A process for making sanitary tableware as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said cereal substance is formed into grains before introducing into the mold if it is a powder.
4. A process as claimed in Claim 3, further comprising the step of adding additives in said cereal substance.
5. A process as substantially described hereinbefore with reference to the accompanying drawings.
