Abstract

An auxiliary braking system for a vehicle comprises means (14) arranged to be actuated by the engagement of reverse gear of the vehicle, said means being connected to operate a valve (10), and a detector (12) connected to operate the same valve, or another valve arranged in series. The valve or valves are arranged in a fluid circuit including a pump (13) for generating a pressurised fluid. This arrangement enables the valve or valves to permit pressurised fluid to flow and to cause actuation of the braking system when the valves is or are in an operated condition.
