Abstract
217,169. De Wendel et Cie, Les Petits Fils de F. June 4, 1928, [Convention date]. Blasting cartridges and tampings. - Two or more cartridges e containing combustible or inert substances with or without a hydrocarbon are placed in a fluid-tight tube b open at one end and adapted to be inserted in a borehole a, the cartridges being impregnated with liquid air or oxygen before or after or partly before and partly after insertion. The cartridges may have a longitudinal passage f to facilitate impregnation, and may be separated by inert masses g. The cartridge at the bottom may be more powerful than those above. The tube b is made of combustible material or of metal with a single wall or with double walls having a vacuum between them; or the tube mav be otherwise insulated. The space between the tube and the wall of the borehole may be filled with insulating combustible or inert substances, such as sawdust, wood, cork flour, peat, or infusorial earth. The cartridge is fired by means of a fuze or a detonating cord. The hole is tamped with plugs of wadding, loose earth, or sand, or even water.
