Abstract

Paper bags and the like, making.-Conical paper cups are formed by winding between heated conical rollers blanks of the form shown impregnated with paraffin-wax or other waterproofing medium and coated on the area 20, shown with acidified starch or other adhesive. The edge 15 is tangential to the substantially circular arc 17, 18, of greater radius than the arc 18, 19, which is practically in contact with the edge 14 in the neighbourhood of the cone centre 19. The adhesive is so spaced from the blank edge, except at the arc 18, 19 and a sector 24, that under the forming-pressure it spreads to the edge, particularly at the point 19, which it nearly approaches. At the arc 18, 19 is left a free edge which tends to lift from the finished cup and so separate the members of a nest of finished cups and prevent adhesion. The sector 24 is left to allow space for the clasp of gripping-members during making, and occurs at a part of the blank which is covered by a succeeding convolution of the cup flap when the cup is made.
