Seed drills.-A machine for depositing seed grains singly comprises scooping and gripping members mounted on a rotary disc and having automatic opening and closing motions. Each scooping-member 2 is fixed to the disc 1 and is provided with a dished end 3 capable of holding one grain only. The gripping-members 7 are pivoted on the members 2 and are normally pressed against the dished end by springs. They are opened periodically by engagement with a cam 8. Each closes on a seed in the container 17 as it leaves the cam, and carries it round until it strikes the cam again and drops the seed through a funnel 10 into the furrow. The disc is driven by gearing from a shaft 12 rotated at a variable speed. The sowing-apparatus may be pivotally mounted on the frame 18 so as to trail on the ground. It may be lifted by a lever 13 which coacts with another lever for putting the apparatus out of operation.
