Abstract
216,872. Myddelton, R. F. May 29, 1923, [Convention date]. Separating by pitted surfaces and on inclined endless bands.-A device for separating stalks from a mixture of stalks and large tea, consists of a wood or metal surface having parallel grooves a inclined towards the end and of a width about equal to the diameter of the stalks. The surface b between the grooves is inclined so that one side of the grooves is lower than the other. Ridges d, dd, of varying depth may be provided on the surfaces b and stops c may be provided in the grooves. In operation, the surface is slightly tilted so that the grooves are open towards the higher end on which the mixture of tea and stalk is fed. Oscillating movement is imparted in the direction of the grooves and the stalks are trapped in the grooves while the tea passes off at the lowed ends. In a modification, a number of narrow surfaces are mounted on an endless travelling band which is so disposed that the upper run moves upward at an inclination to the horizontal. The supporrt for the band is reciprocated at right angles to the length of the band and the stalk and tea are delivered at the upper and lower ends respectively of the run. side plates being provided to prevent lateral discharge of the material. Specification 181,941 is referred to.
