Abstract

Chimney and ventilating-shaft tops.-A chimney &c. top of the kind described in Specification 215,585 is provided with an intermediate member 8 mounted on a gimbal ring between the tiltable top 9 and the lower part A. As shown in Fig. 4, the .members A, 8, 9 are cylindrical but a modification is described in which the upper part of the member A and the intermediate member 8 are upwardly tapered, this arrangement allowing the upper member 9 to be of the same diameter as the lower part A. The lower edge of the member 8 is provided with a counterweight comprising either a ring 22, Fig. 5, secured to three equidistant straps 21 or separate weights carried by the straps 21; similar counterbalancing arrangements may be provided on the upper member 9. Two or more intermediate members 8 may be mounted on gimbal-rings between the parts A, 9.
