Abstract

A ski board, eg a surfing board, has a flat body which is curved and tapered at the bow so that the water is forced beneath the board. On the underside of the board are water guide rails 8 which trap a greater amount of water so lifting the board and aiding a straight course. The board therefor cannot function in deep water as water must be sandwiched between the board and the sand for it to function. On the bow of the board is attached a towing attachment 5 should there be more than one operator. On the top side of the board are found rope support attachments 3 to aid operator and a grip pad 2 for safety. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Shallow water ski board This invention relates to a shallow water ski board.
Surf boards are well known craft which comprise a long, thick, streamlined board with a curved tapered bow capable of supporting a person in deep water. Surf boards are paddled out to deep water and return to the shore propelled by wave power.
Surf boards are, however, expensive. Moreover they can only be used to their full capabilities when there are sufficient waves in which they can operate.
According to the present invention there is provided a board comprising a flat keel, a streamlined upturned bow. The board being fitted with water guide rails on the flat keel. Should the board be used by more than one child a towing attachment has been fitted to the underside of the bow. On the deck of the board there is provided a grip pad for feet, in front of the grip pad are found rope support attachments should the child require extra stability.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the top side of the board, illustrating shape of board, foot grip pad and support handle attachments.
Figure 2 shows in perspective the underside keel of the board illustrating the positions of water guide rails and tow attachment.
Figure 3 illustrates degree of bow curve and how the board operates on water film.
Referring to the drawing the board comprises a foot grip pad 2 attached to the top side of the board. Support handle attachments 3 are secured in front of the grip pad 2 at bow 4.
When only one child is operating the board the towing attachment 5 and support handle attachments 3 are not used. For single handed operation the board is launched in not more than 6 cms of water 6 as it will not function in water greater than this depth.
The child then jumps on to the grip pad 2. Water 6 is trapped between the board 1 and the sand 7.
As water passes under the board the guide rails 8 sandwich the water, thus ensuring that the board travels a straight course.
When two or more children are operating the board the towing attachment 5 is connected to a rope and the board can then be towed along the sea edge. Until the operator has gained some proficiency the support handles 3 can be attached.
1. A shallow water ski board comprises a flat board, a curved tapered bow and tapered stern.
2. A shallow water ski board as claimed in claim 1 wherein water guide rails are provided on the underside of the board to control flow of water between the board and the sand.
3. A shallow water ski board as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein on the top side of the board there is provided a grip pad for standing on.
4. A shallow water ski board as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3 wherein is provided a towing attachment at the bow.
5. A shallow water ski board as claimed in claim 4 wherein rope supports are provided to assist stability of operator.
6. A shallow water ski board as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the construction shall be in plywood, glass fibre, re-inforced plastic.
7. A shallow water ski board substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
