Abstract
216,497. Krupp Akt.-Ges. Germaniawerft, F. May 25. 1923, [Convention date]. Launching torpedoes.-A torpedo F is ejected from a tube A of uniform diameter throughout its length by means of a piston G, which is initially away from the torpedo, the intermediate space being filled with water supplied from a, tank R by a pipe P provided with a valve Q. The piston is driven forwards by compressed air admitted behind it through the rear door B of the tube by a valve E. When the torpedo passes beyond a pawl 0, this falls in against a pin m<1> on a lever M and stops the piston G ; at the same time the lever M is deflected and, by means of linkwork L, K, opens a valve H allowing the compressed air to escape from the tube A into the ship. The distance between the piston and the tail of the torpedo should be long enough to prevent the piston coming in contact with the tail while the intervening water partially leaks out during the discharge of the torpedo.
