Abstract

216,430. Rett, C. E., and Anderson, G. S. April 24, 1923. Tyres, elastic, special apparatus for making.- Relates to apparatus for use in building cushion tyres of the kind having transverse apertures between the rim and tread. A ring 1 is fitted with bolts 4 and studs 14 to receive the standard tyre-rim 18 which is detachably clamped in position by cams 12 on the bolts 4. The base portion 21 of the tyre may be built in the rim before or after its assemblage on the ring 1 but in any case studs 17 projecting from the ring determine the depth of such case portion. The studs also serve to position spacer-blocks 22 which are fitted between the studs before building-up the tread portion 23 of the tyre. The complete tyre is then transferred to a two-part mould 24, 25, Fig. 7, one part of which carries pins 32, corresponding in position to the studs 17 on the ring 1, which determine the correct size of the tyre apertures, when the mould-halves are tightly clamped together. The blocks 22 used in building-up the tyre are of greater length than the width of the finished tyre so as to provide surplus rubber between the apertures for crowding up to the pins 32 in the moulding operation.
