Abstract

A container 1 which may be removed from, adjusted and fixed to an invalid crutch 2 by a fixing device 3 such that the user of the crutches may carry objects whilst their hands are otherwise engaged in manipulating the crutches. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Detachable container to fit an invalid crutch This invention relates to a detachable container to fit an invalid crutch and the attachment of it to the crutch.
Invalid crutches are well known devices to aid the mobility of a disabled person. For balance, such a person normally needs two crutches requiring total use of their arms and hands to manipulate them. Consequently carrying an object is very difficult. Examples of such objects are a parcel, a bottle of milk, books and items of shopping.
According to the present invention there is provided a detachable container, the form of the container, method of attachment to the crutch and a specific example of a container and means of achieving such an attachment.
The invention and a specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of exam ple with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 shows the container mounted on the crutch.
Figure 2 shows in more detail an example of a container and fixing device.
Referring to Figure 1 the container 1 is attached to the crutch 2 by a suitable fixing 3, for example a friction clamp, that by manipulation of the fitting the container can be removed from, attached, adjusted in position or locked to the crutch. The container is then removed from, attached, adjusted in position or locked to the crutch by an angular, rotational or linear movement relative to the crutch or by a combination of an angular, rotational or linear movement.
The container may be of rigid, flexible or semirigid contoured and shaped form and may be fitted with a closure 4 of similar form.
Figure 2 shows an example of a container and fitting in accordance with the description given above. The container is fitted with a peg 7 that engages in the clamp 8 which fits to the crutch 2 by screws and nuts 5 located in the existing holes in the crutch. Manipulation of the screws enables the peg to be inserted in, locked or moved in or removed from the clamp, with the consequence that the container is fitted to, removed from, locked or adjusted in position to the crutch. Parts 5, 7, 8 comprise an example of the fitting 3. Part 7 is part of the container.
1. A detachable container for an invalid crutch comprising a shaped and contoured box or bag of rigid, flexible or semi-rigid form that may be removed from, fixed to, adjusted in position and locked to an invalid crutch.
2. The removal attachment, locking and adjustment to the crutch of the container in claim 1 to be by an angular, rotational or linear movement or by a combination of an angular, rotational or linear movement relative to the crutch.
3. The container in claim 1 to be fitted with a rigid, flexible or semi-flexible closure with a suitable catch for closing and opening the closure.
4. A specific method of achieving the attachment in claim 2 of the container in claims 1 and 3.
5. A detachable container and fixing substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
