Abstract
A machined, rectangular, box-like, bottomless, insect-repelling bed net 16 with zip 17 is placed on net supports 9 and attached to them with clips 18 to provide users with a self-supporting insect-repelling bed net for use where permanently fixed nets depending on external fixing devices such as ceiling and wall hooks are unavailable. The four "L" shaped net supports 9 are attached releasably to the bed by being inserted between the mattress and the base of each corner. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Self-supporting insect-repelling Bed Net
This invention relates to a self-supporting insectrepelling bed net.
Insect-repelling bed nets are a well known method of protecting their users from insects while asleep and basically comprise of a net suspended from fixing points located on the ceiling or wall. These nets are particularly common in sub-tropical and tropical climates where insects, notably mosquitoes are rife.
Traditional insect-repelling bed nets rely for assembly, however, on external fixing points such as ceiling or wall hooks which in the majority of cases where it is envisaged that the nets could be used may not be available.
With the increasing tourist migration to the warmer insect-ridden countries, there is a need to alleviate peoples' insect-related nocturnal worries by providing them with a device which overcomes the major deficiency of existing insect-repelling bed nets.
According to the present invention there is provided a self-supporting insect-repelling bed net comprising a net support system which attaches itself releasably to the bed, a machined net and means for securing the net to the net support system.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the component parts of a net support assembly;
Figure 2 shows the positioning of a net support assembly in relation to the mattress and the base of the bed; and
Figure 3 shows the final assembly of the selfsupporting insect-repelling bed net in situ.
Referring to the drawings the self-supporting insect-repelling bed net comprises net supports 9, a machined rectangular box-like bottomless net 16 with zip 17, and clips 18 for securing the net to the net supports.
In order to erect the self-supporting insectrepelling bed net the first stage is the assembly of the net support system, which consists of four "L" shaped supports 9 on and around which the net will be placed. As shown in Figure 1 the end of the upright part 10 which has the tapered end 11 is inserted into the receptor hole 12 located in the base part 13 with a twisting movement of the wrist to give a secure interference fit.
When the four net supports have been assembled they are now ready to be attached to the user's bed.
As illustrated in Figure 2 these net supports are simply inserted between the mattress 14 and the base of the bed 15. The width and length of the base part 13 of the net supports mean that they provide a good support with even the flimsiest of mattresses and a non-rigid bed base.
As shown in Figure 3 when the net supports are in position at each corner of the bed, the user is now able to place the machined rectangular box-like bottomless net 16 with zip 17 over the net supports and affix it securely to them with the aid of the clips 18.
Having clipped the net to the tops of the net supports and tucked the draping net under the three non-zip sides of the mattress the user may now enter the bed through the flap provided when the zip is in the open position. On reclosing the net and tucking in the remaining zip-side under the mattress the insect world is sealed off.
1. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net comprising a net support system which attaches itself releasably to the bed, a machined net and means for securing the net to the net support system.
2. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the net support system is attached to the bed by being inserted between the mattress and the base of the bed.
3. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the net support system comprises four "L" shaped net supports positioned at each corner of the bed.
4. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the net is rectangular and box-like in form.
5. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net as claimed in Claims 1 and 4 wherein the net is bottomless.
6. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net as claimed in Claims 1,4 and 5 wherein the net is provided with at least one zip for entry/exit.
7. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the means for securing the net to the net support system takes the form of clips.
8. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net substantially as described herein with reference to
Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: (a) Claim 1 above has been textually amended.
(b) New or textually amended claims have been filed as follows:- 1. A self-supporting insect-repelling bed net comprising a net and net supporting system attached releasably to all beds having a mattress and base, including divan types, and affording complete protection to the occupant by totally enclosing an air space above the occupant, the occupant, the support system and the top and side areas of the mattress.
