Abstract

The plough trash board or blade (6) is mounted so as to extend with clearance over the upper edge (10) of the mould board (1) so that turning of soil by the latter is substantially unhindered. Such mounting is conveniently effected from an upward extension (30) of a shin (3) to the mould board (1) and preferably includes provision for alternative mounting (31) and/or angular adjustment (70,71,61) of the trash board (6) relative to the mould board (1). The cross section of the trash board (6) may be of curved form in forwardly concave manner to further assist direction of trash into the soil and also to provide an effective lower cutting edge (60). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Plough trash board arrangement This invention relates to a plough trash board arrangement of the kind in which the trash board, usually in the form of a curved blade or the like extending in a generally lateral direction in relation to the plough mould board, is arranged to direct trash such as straw or the like into the soil being turned where the practice is to plough in the trash rather than burn it off.
Hitherto the usual procedure has been to directly mountthe trash board from the mould board and the object of the invention is to provide an improved trash board arrangement whereby there is little or no hindrance to the ploughing operation and more effective direction and ploughing in of the trash is obtained.
According to this invention a plough trash board arrangement of the kind referred to is characterised by the trash board or blade being mounted or mountable in relation to the mould board so as to extend with clearance over the upper edge of the mould board so that turning of soil by the latter is substantially unhindered.
In practicethetrash board arrangement may be as shown in the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 is a side elevation showing the trash board mounted in relation to a mould board, and FIGURE 2 is a rearview in the direction ofthe arrow II of FIGURE 1.
The mould board 1 is shown carried by a leg 2 from an arm 20 which in turn is mounted from a plough frame (not shown) e.g. of a reversible plough and the mould board 1 is provided with a shin 3 whilst a wing 5 and reversible point member4 are also shown, the latter being in accordance with my prior patent No: 2,100,562.
The trash board or blade 6 is shown ofcurved form extending laterally and in a rearward direction in relation to the mould board 1 so that, in the usual manner, the curvature is forwardly concave. In accordance with this invention the trash board 6 extends with definite and adequate clearance over the upper edge 10 of the mould board 1 sothatturning of soil bythe latter is virtually unhindered and in the convenient arrangement shown the forward end of the trash board 6 is mounted from an upward extension 30 ofthe shin 3.
By alternative bolt hole mountings at 31 and/or provision for angular adjustment of the trash board 6 e.g. by a pivot bolt 70 and a second bolt 71 passing through an arcuate slot 61 in the forward end of the trash board 6, the positioning and downward inclination of the trash board 6 can be set and firmly secured in position by tightening the bolt nuts.
The curvature and length ofthetrash board 6 can be selected according to requirements and alternative boards can be provided for this purpose for interchangeable use.
During ploughing the soil isturned bythe mould board 1 in the usual way and the trash board 6 directs strawand similar matter into the soil as it is turned for inclusion in the latter in a manner described below.
The loweredge 60 ofthetrash board 6 also has a cutting orskimming action on the upper edge portion of the soil as it is turned to cut away stubble and direct it between adjacent runs ofturned soil.
The rearward positioning of the trash board 6 in relation to the leading pa of the htuld board 1 i.e. in relation to the shin 3 and point member 4 is such that the collected and cut off trash is directed between adjacent runs of the turned soil so as to be sandwiched between them ratherthan be fully buried underthe turned soil. This enables the oxygen ofthe airto more readily reach the sandwiched trash for suitable decomposition (aerobic respiration) to assist plant or crop growth as against the growth inhibiting action of fully buried trash (anaerobic condition).
In addition to leaving the mould board 1 freeforsoil turning the clearance between the trash board 6 and mould board 1 is also such that accumulation of straw or the like between the trash board 6 and mould board 1 is minimised and tends to be self clearing.
In a development the cross section of the trash board 6 may be of curved form again in a forwardly concave manner in order to further assist direction of trash into the soil as it is turned and also provide an effective lower cutting edge 60.
