Abstract
A soil trimming blade or fin (60) is provided by a separate member (6) bolted to the plough body assembly (1) such as the frog (2) of the latter whereby the blade (60) is upstanding in advance of the landslide (5). The blade member (6) includes a mounting base portion (62) which is bolted to the frog (2) and is shown cranked (at 620) so as to extend between the leading end portion of the landslide (5) and the frog (2). This enables the face (600) of the blade (60) to be substantially flush with the bearing face (500) of the landslide (5). The cranked portion (620) is also secured by the bolting (at B) of the landslide (5) to the frog (2). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Plough soil trimming device
This invention relates to a plough soil trimming device in the nature of an upstanding blade or fin associated with the landside of the plough body assembly and fortrimming the edge of the unturned soil againstwhich the landside runs.
Hitherto such a blade or fin has been provided as an integral part of a landside but this is a dis-advantage in practice owing to the rapid wear of the blade or fin and in view of this the object of this invention is to provide an effective form and arrangement of replaceable blade orfin to reduce operating costs.
According to the invention a soil trimming blade or fin which is upstanding in position of use in relation to the landside of a plough body assembly, has a base portion adapted to be detachably secured, e.g. by bolting to the plough body assembly such as the frog of the latterfor location relative to the landside.
A practical example of a replaceable cutting blade or fin is shown in the accompanying drawings in which:- FIGURE lisa rear perspective view showing the blade in position of use, FIGURE 2 is a view similar to FIGURE 1 but showing the blade and landside removed, and FIGURE 3 shows howthe cutters can beformed out of plate metal in strip form.
In the usual manner, the plough body 1 is shown mounted by means of a frog 2 from a leg 3 depending from the plough beam (not shown), the frog 2 carrying the landside 5 bolted to it at bolt hole locations B and C. The forward end ofthe frog 3 is also shown carrying a reversible and replaceable plough point member4 in accordance with my prior patent application No.
81-19631.
In accordance with the present invention the upstanding cutter blade or fin 60 associated with the landside 5 and fortrimming the edge of unturned soil against which the landside 5 bears and runs, consists of a separate member 6 having a base portion 62 bolted to the frog 2 at bolt hole locations A and B.
Forthis purpose the base portion 62 is shown having a cranked part 620 so asto extend between the leading end portion of the landside Sand the frog 2 so that the face 600 ofthe blade 60 visible in the drawings is substantially flush with the bearing face 500 ofthe landside 5. In order to provide a suitable arrangement the landside 5 is also spaced at bolt hole location C from the frog 2 bya perforated plate orwasher52 of similarthicknessto the cranked part 620 of the blade base portion 62. The forward part of the base portion 62 at the bolt hole location A bears against a bracket 7 carrying the plough pointmember4withanyspacing member in between as necessary.
The leading cutting edge 66 of the blade 60 is shown rearwardly inclined so asto have a suitable shearing
action in trimming or side cutting the soil.
On considerable wear of the blade 60 taking place it
is only necessary to undo the bolt mountings at locations A. B and Cto remove and replace the blade member 6.
In FIGURE 2 the landside is also shown removed for this purpose but may be simply slackened atthe bolt hole location Cto enablethe cranked part620 of a replacement blade member6to be inserted behind it and the bolts at locations A and B replaced.
Not only can the blade member 6 be readily replaced without need to discard an otherwise serviceable landside5, but the bolting of the base portion 62 at locations A and B to the frog 2 ensures firm mounting ofthe blade 60 in position of use whilst the arrangement of the cranked part 620 provides a flush relationship ofthe blade60 with the landside 5 and at a suitable position in advance of the latter.
Owing to their general L-form the blades or fins 60 complete with the base portion 62 may be cheaply produced as stampings or by othersuitable formation from plate or sheet metal ofsuitablethickness, i.e. in the strip form shown in FIGURE 3 and with the inter-locating arrangement also shown sothatthere is little or no waste of material. The base portion is then cranked to provide the part 620 and the blade 60 is hardened.
The invention includes within its scope not only the members 6 providing the blades or fins 60 together with the base portion 62 ready for use but such blades orfinswhen mounted in position of use in conjunction with a landside 5 on a frog 2 orsimilarsupporting part of a plough body mounting.
