215,725. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of O'Brien, B.). May 7, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Resistance materials.-An electric resistance material is formed by incorporating a finely powdered conducting material with a compound of cellulose, adding a substance to render it plastic and finally moulding or extruding it. Nitrate or acetate of cellulose is mixed with lamp black, moistened with a solvent such as acetone and moulded or extruded; or the cellulose compound may be dissolved in an aqueous solution of zinc chloride and extruded under a liquid such as methyl alcohol. The final material may be rendered plastic b placing it in boiling water. In order to stabilize the resistor the material is aged in air for from 20 to 60 days. High temperature and the employment of a vacuum hasten this action. An oil such as castor oil may be added to facilitate extruding the material and render the final resistor more flexible.
