Abstract

A price ticket display comprises a holder 1 of convex or concave shape with two opposed channels 2,3 and a rigid but flexible panel which may be slid or sprung into the channels so as to lie closely adjacent a back support surface 1. The display panel comprises a sleeve formed of a back sheet 4 of preferably an opaque, e.g. black, plastics material which is rigid or semi-rigid and to which a transparent front sheet 5 is connected by means of an ultrasonic weld along the top edge 6. This sleeve is adapted to receive a panel 7 as shown in Fig. 3 comprising a sheet of rigid, semi- rigid or flacid material which has printed thereon or is capable of carrying components which may indicate the type of produce and price. The panel 7 is inserted between the back and front sheets 4,5 of the sleeve which is then flexed to engage the channels of the ticket holder 1. The effect of this flexion is to grip the insert panel firmly in the sleeve so that it can be made undersized, an example being to locate it centrally allowing the colour of the backing sheet to create the effect of a peripheral frame. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to Price Ticket Displays This invention relates to improvements in price ticket displays and is particularly concerned with displays for fixture to the edges of shelves in supermarkets or the like. Such shelves generally include a rail along an edge to which a fixture carrying a support panel may be secured the panel including inturned channels on opposed longitudinal edges whereby a price ticket display may be flexed so as to be inserted with its edges in respective ones of the channels so as to be retained therein. By this means the display panel may be readily removed from the ticket holder to change the display With such display panels it is necessary to provide a simple means whereby shop staff may change the display or prices or the like thereon but which nevertheless is reasonably immune from tampering whereby prices may be removed.One method for preventing tampering is described in Patent Application 2093624 in which the separate components defining pricing and the like are adhered to the back of a transparent panel which is then inserted in the ticket holder. Adhering the components to the rear of the panel is not the most convenient arrangement but it does prevent tampering with the display.

It is an object of this invention to provide an improved construction for a display panel used with a ticket holder in which the components making up the panel are protected but in which the contents of the panel may be readily changed in part or completely.

According to a broad aspect of this invention there is provided in combination a ticket holder comprising a convex or concave arcuate support of which two opposed edges have channels with inwardly directed mouths and a display panel dimensioned so that two opposed edges thereof may be engaged each with one of the channels, with the panel being capable of flexure to secure such engagement and thereafter springing back to engage within the channels and to lie in closely adjacent co-planar relationship with the ticket holder, the display panel comprising a back sheet of resilient flexible material and a front sheet being at least in part transparent and secured to the back sheet by means of a bond extending along one of the longitudinal edges.

The back sheet may be of a rigid or semirigid plastics material and preferably has at least a back surface in the nature of artificial suede or a linen finish to provide a degree of frictional engagement with the ticket holder thereby preventing same from readily sliding out longitudinally. The front sheet may be a rigid or semi-rigid plastics material and will in general be of thinner gauge than the back sheet. The front sheet will be wholly transparent and may include printed thereon certain display matter so as to leave an area or areas clear (e.g. a central area) to view therethrough a price ticket or the like inserted behind the front sheet.A further integer of the combination will therefore comprise a suitable ticket panel for insertion between the front sheet and back sheet and adapted to carry components to indicate price or the like and which may be changed in a simple manner. With this arrangement the whole of the pricing information may be changed by removing same from between the back sheet and front sheet and when pricing information in position it cannot be tampered with without removal of the whole display panel.

The back sheet will preferably be white, black or coloured opaque material and the front sheet will be transparent with possibly an outline border or borders and possibly incorporating a company logo or any suitable motif, these preferably being preprinted in several bright colours, the object thereof being to reduce printing on the inside panel or card or ticket to a bare description of the commodity concerned which, in most cases, would need only be in one colour. It will be readily seen that in conjoint presentation, that is display panel and price ticket, the impression will be created of a multi-colour print in each case, irrespective of when and how the inside panel inserts are exchanged. By the same token the display panel may be varied to indicate special or seasonal offers.

Thus the whole sleeve may be changed in relation to a pricing panel inserted therein so that the impact of the display can be varied without recourse to changing the components of the price panel itself.

One embodiment according to the invention is shown by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows the ticket holder of a conventional form, Figure 2 shows the sleeve comprising a back sheet and front sheet, and Figure 3 shows a pricing panel.

Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings these illustrate a ticket holder having a back support surface 1 of convex shape and with the two opposed edges including channels 2 and 3.

This ticket holder is adapted to receive a rigid but flexible panel which may either be slid in from an end longitudinally or alternatively flexed so as to be engaged beneath each channel and then released to spring back so as to lie closely adjacent the surface 1.

According to this invention in combination with the aforesaid panel there is provided a sleeve component comprising a back sheet 4 of preferably an opaque, e.g. black, plastics material which is rigid or semi-rigid and to which a transparent front sheet 5 is connected by means of an ultrasonic weld along the top edge 6. Preferably the rear sheet will be of 10 to 20 1,000/inch gauge whereas the front sheet will be some 10 1,000/inch. This sleeve is adapted to receive a panel as shown in Fig. 3 comprising a sheet of rigid, semirigid or flacid material 7 which has printed thereon or is capable of carrying components such as of self cling vinyl which may indicate the type of produce and price. The panel 7 is inserted into the sleeve between the back sheet and the front which is then flexed to engage the channels 2 and 3 of the ticket holder 1.The effect of this flexion is to grip the insert panel firmly in the sleeve so that it can be made undersized an example being to locate it centrally allowing the colour of the backing sheet to create the effect of a peripheral frame. In the event of flacid material, apart from gripping, the holder will retain inserts in any given position by virtue of the inherent static electricity in the plastic especially if the front surface is rubbed vigourously after panel 7 has been inserted. The front sheet 5 may have printed on the back thereof wording indicating special offers or the like and this can be readily changed according to need without disturbing the basic pricing information contained on the panel 7.In a further embodiment the back sheet 4 has a highly polished front surface enabling same to receive highly polished components forming pricing or other information which are positioned in accordance with further information printed on the front sheet 5. In such an arrangement the panel 7 may or may not be necessary according to requirements. The panel 7 may thus be primarily transparent with other information printed thereon to define offers or the like.

In yet another embodiment the back sheet 4 has permanently printed thereon product information and the front cover may be printed so as to mask out certain parts of the back and to allow other parts to be viewed through windows therein, A particular advantage has been found from the use of semi-rigid PVC material especially with the back sheet having a linen or like finish insofar as the sheet does not take up a permanent set and will not readily disengage itself from the holder if same is removed from the shelf.

In the arrangement according to this invention there is therefore provided an open sided sleeve which may receive information on a separate panel and which further may itself be printed or carry components forming part of the overall composition for the pricing display.

Claims

1. In combination, a) a ticket holder comprising a convex or concave arcuate support of which two opposed edges have channels with inwardly directed mouths and, b) a display panel capable of flexure and dimensioned so that two opposed edges thereof may be engaged each with one of the channels by flexure of the panel which thereafter springs back to engage within the channels and to lie in closely adjacent co-planar relationship with the ticket holder, the display panel comprising a back sheet of resilient flexible material and a front sheet being at least in part transparent and secured to the back sheet by means of a connection extending along one of the longitudinal edges.

2. A combination in accordance with Claim 1, wherein the connection comprises a bond formed between the back and front sheets of the display panel.

3. A combination in accordance with Claim 2, wherein the bond comprises a seam weld.

4. A combination in accordance with Claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the back sheet is of a rigid or semi-rigid plastics material and has at least a back surface in the nature of artificial suede or a linen finish to provide a degree of frictional engagement with the ticket holder thereby preventing same from readily sliding out longitudinally.

5. A combination in accordance with any one of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the front sheet may be a rigid or semi-rigid plastics material and is of thinner gauge than the back sheet.

6. A combination is accordance with Claims 1 to 5, wherein the front sheet is wholly transparent and includes printed thereon certain display matter so as to leave an area or areas clear to view therethrough a price ticket or the like inserted behind the front sheet.

7. A combination in accordance with any one of Claims 1 to 6, wherein a further integer of the combination comprises a suitable ticket panel for insertion between the front sheet and back sheet and adapted to carry components to indicate price or the like.

8. A combination of ticket holder and display panel as herein described with reference to the drawings.
