Abstract

An end stop (11) is formed on the end of plastics rope (10) and has substantially flat undercut shoulders (12) protruding outwards from the periphery of the rope to provide a neatly formed end to the rope and a means of faciliting fastening thereof to other objects and fittings and to itself, e.g., to form an eye-splice. The rope (10) is passed through an inner tubular member (21). The protruding filaments thereof are heated in a low flame until molten to form an enlarged head (25) which is then moulded, e.g., by sliding an outer tubular member (23), disposed on the inner member (21), over the molten head and introducing a die (24) into the open end of the outer tubular member (23).
