Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the influence of an optical loss, etc., which is caused by freezing of residual water in the conduit line, by providing a lot of closed hollow parts in the sheath of an optical cable. CONSTITUTION:An optical cable 20 is formed by placing a 6-core optical unit provided with 6 optical fiber cable conductors, and a tracer quad 24 in the circumference of a tension member 21, and providing a push-wind tape 25 and a sheath 27 to their outside circumference. The sheath consits of polyethylene, etc., and has a lot of closed hollow parts 27a in its inside. The hollow part 27 a is formed intermittently in both the circumferential direction and the lengthwise direction. The sheath 27 is prepared by use of a die having a shape as shown in the figure, by the extrusion converting method.
