Abstract

215,114. Marks, E. C. R., (Corona Typewriter Co., Inc.). Feb. 6, 1923. Sheet.feeding arrangements. - A frame arranged under the platen 17, Fig. 6, carries front and rear feedrollers 29 which are released in two movements bv a rockable cast-off shaft, which first engages and depresses the rear parts of the feed-roller frames to release the rear feed-rollers, the subsequent movement causing the frame to move down bodily to release the front feed-rollers. The feed-rollers are arranged in two sets, one set to each end of the platen. Each set is carried on a substantially rectangular frame comprising the front and rear shafts 30. 31 and a pair of flat bars 34 provided with upstanding ears 33, 35 at their front and rear ends respectively, to form journals for the corresponding shafts. Two rollers 29 with a loose spacing-sleeve 32 are shown on each shaft. The rockable shaft comprises a sheetmetal bar 18 with a rear stiffening-flange 21, and with its ends 19 bent down and pivotally supported on screws 20 passing through the end flanges 16 of the platen carriage 15. Lever fingers 22 projecting forwardly from the front edge of the bar 18 are bent to form hooks 23 at their ends, which are disposed the rear ends of the bars 34 and the shafts 31. Each feed-roller frame is supported upon a flat sheet-metal bar 38 which has its ends arranged loosely beneath the end bars 34. The bars 38 are widened midway and provided with hooks 48 engaged within slots 47 in transverse plates 39 to form a pivotal connection. The ends 40 of the plates 39 are offset to form pivots 41 journaled within ears 42 struck up from the platen carriage. The plates 39 are normally pulled towards the platen by a spring 43 connected between a pair of upstanding arms 44 integral with the rear ends 40 of the plates. The rocking-shaft is actuated by a cam pivoted upon the platen shaft 17<1> and provided with two working faces to co-operate with an arm 27 offset from the right-hand end of the bar 18. On the initial rocking of the bar 18 the fingers 22 bear upon the rear ends of the bars 34 and tilt them about the front shaft 30 to the position shown in Fig. 6. Several, preferably four, of the ears 35 at the rear ends of the bars 34 are extended to form hook-like levers 45 which contact with the rocking-bar 18 when the rear feed-rollers are released. On further movement the rocking-bar bears against the hooks 45, thereby tilting the bars 34 to carry the forward feed-rollers away from the platen. In this position the spring 43 is fully extended and the plates 39 are in contact with the upper face of the platen carriage.
