Abstract

A tiltable syphonic tube 15 is connected to a cistern outlet 11 by means of a neoprene rubber sleeve 14 (rather than a bellows) so that on actuating flushing lever 16 to depress the tube 15 below the level of water there are no corrugations to cause eddies and thus turbulence in the flow path of the water being discharged. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Siphonic valves BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION This invention relates to siphonic valves of the kind which may be utilised as flushing valves in toilet cisterns.
Of the various varieties of siphonic valves one is known as "the snorkel siphon." While the latter type of valve is of a very simple construction and easy to operate, the known ones have the drawback that they have a discharge rate which is too slow for use on cisterns.
An object of the invention is to provide a snorkel siphon valve which has a relatively fast discharge rate.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the invention the siphonic tube of a snorkel siphon valve is hinged to a discharge outlet by means of a resiliently flexible foldless sleeve.
In the preferred form of the invention the sleeve is formed with a wide end and a narrow end, the narrow end being secured to the tube and the wide end to the outlet.
The foldless hinge of the invention is in contrast to the bellows type hinge construction characteristic of the prior art. Comparative tests between the invention and the prior art have shown that the bellows construction causes turbulent flow in which the turbulence is so high that the flow through the tube is retarded.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a section through a cistern fitted with a valve according to the invention with the valve in its normal position; and Figure 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the valve in its discharge initiating position.
DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT A cistern 10 has a hole in its floor in which fits a discharge nozzle 11 which has a flange 1 2 resting on the flange 1 3 of a natural rubber sleeve 1 4. The sleeve 1 4 has a narrow section which is secured to a siphonic tube 15.
A flushing lever mechanism 1 6 on the turning of a flushing lever (not shown) bends the tube 1 5 to the position shown in Fig. 2 and in which the top of the tube 1 5 is beiow the level of the water in the cistern. Flushing along the tube 1 5 and through the nozzle 11 is thus initiated and continues even when the tube 1 5 moves to an erect position again.
As can be seen from Fig. 2 the sleeve 14 deforms without forming corrugations or fold marks which could cause eddies and thus turbulence in the flow path of the water being discharged.
1. A snorkel type siphon valve in which the siphonic tube is hinged to a discharge outlet by means of a resiliently flexible foldless sleeve.
2. The valve claimed in claim 1 in which the sleeve is formed with a wide and a narrow end, the narrow end being secured to the syphonic tube and the wide end to the outlet.
3. A snorkel type siphon valve substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
