Abstract

Compositions for treatment of the skin or the scalp to promote hair growth comprise a moisturiser e.g. isopropylmyristate, an oil e.g. lanolin, an emulsifier e.g. Sorbitol ester, a preservative e.g. Nipastat, a follicle stimulant e.g. Tabasheer, and an enzyme catalyst e.g. Carboxylase dehydrase obtained from the excretion of a gastropod, especially Helix Aspersy.

Description

SPECIFICATION Preparation for treatment of sisin and hair This invention relates to preparations for treatment of the skin and is particularly, though not exclusively, applicable to treatment of the scalp to encourage hair growth.
Numerous skin tonics already exist for this general purpose and it is an object of the invention to provide an improved preparation which will avoid undesirable effects on the skin or hair follicles, while at the same time encouraging blood circulation and generally activating the scalp to promote hair growth.
Broadly stated, the invention consists in a preparation for treatment of the skin and/or to encourage hair growth comprising a moisturiser, an oil or fat, an emulsifier and an enzyme catalyst. Preferably the moisturiser is isopropylmyristate and the oil is lanolin, and the preferred emulsifier is an ester, for example Sorbitol ester. The preparation also preferably includes a preservative, for example a bacteriacide such as Nipastat, and a follicle stimulant, such as Tabasheer.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment will now be described, by way of example.
In this example the preparation has the following constituents in the volumetric proportions stated: Percentage by weight Constftuent Overall Preferred Range % Range Skin moisturiser Isopropylmyristate 1.5-8.0 3-5 Oil-lanolin 2-75 8-25 Emulsifier-sorbitol ester 6-25 5-10 Pink dye Trace - as required Preservative - Nipastat 0 - 3.0 0.5 - 1 Perfume - Oil of Rosemary 1.5 - 8.0 1.0 - 4,0 Herbal Follicle Stimulant Tabasheer. 0-8.0 1.5-5.0 Enzyme Catalyst 0 - 2.0 0.2 Water 70-95 80 The enzyme catalyst is preferably a lyase or ligase, for example a carboxylase and/or decarboxylase, and a particular preferred enzyme is obtained from the secretions of gastropods, more particularly a snail such as Helix Aspersy, which has been supplied with a diet of ferns such as maidenhair fern (Adiantum Capillus Verneris) preferably at a controlled temperature between 20 and 30"C.
Although some of the ingredients may appear to have simple individual function it is found, surprisingly, that the combination of the moisturiser with oil, emulsifier, water, follicle stimulant, and enzyme catalyst has a remarkable synergistic effect on the scalp and follicles and this is even further enhanced by the choice of an effective preservative and an aromatic oil.
The preparation can be applied to the scalp in various different ways. It may be rubbed into the skin, or applied to an absorbent pad, and the effect may be increased by vibro-massage or heat treatment during or after the application. The preparation can also effectively be combined with some other hair treatments such as shampoos, and surprisingly it has been found beneficial also in the treatment of scurf.
1. A preparation for treatment of the skin and/or to encourage hair growth comprising a moisturiser, an oil or fat, an emulsifier and an enzyme catalyst.
2. A preparation according to Claim 1, in which the enzyme is a lyase or ligase, a carboxylase or decarboxylase.
3. A preparation according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, in which the moisturiser is isopropylmyristate in a proportion between 1.5% and 8% by volume.
4. A preparation according to Claim 1 and Claim 2, in which the oil is lanolin, in a proportion between 8%
