Abstract

The trolley has a pair of rubber wheels I and these drive a pair of steel wheels 2 to which is attached a spool 3. When the apparatus is pushed along the ground over which a hose pipe or such like object is laid the hosepipe is neatly wound onto the spool. The spool can be easily lifted off the trolley and another such spool inserted into the slot 5. The trolley can also be attached to a self drive unit for motive power. Unwinding may be effected by lifting the loaded spool from the trolley and replacing it in the slots the opposite way round. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hosepipe cable or rope winding trolley This invention relates to a self-winding trolleymounted spool for cables, ropes, hosepipe and such like. Long flexible objects hereinafter all collectively referred to as "plant" which are required to be unrolled for use and then rolled up for storage and/or transportation.
This apparatus has been developed for conveniently and easily winding and unwinding hosepipes across ground to which the handpushed trolley has access. Its application for use with other such plant can readily be appreciated.
Other devices presently available to fulfil the function of winding or unwinding plant involves such inconveniences as dragging the plant across the ground or manually lifting the spool onto which the plant is being wound. Further, it has been found that in practice simply rolling a spool across ground on which plant is laid in order to wind the plant onto the spool causes the plant to be either wound too tight or too slack and involves much physical effort by the operator when the plant is heavy.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
The main components of this invention are the rubber tyred travelling/driving wheels 1 to which the handle 4 is attached, and the detachable spool 3 which is integral with the steel driven wheels 2. The spool/driven wheel assembly is mounted on the trolley assembly by placing the exposed axle between 2 and 3 into the slot shown as 5 on the trolley.
A clip (6), provided on thespool 3 into which the plant 7 is tucked at the start of the winding operation.
The success of the invention lies in the ratio of the diameters of the driving and driven wheels, this is 300 : 90, and in the self regulating level of friction between these two sets of wheels, experience shows that if there is a tendency for the plant to start to become too tightly wound then a slippage between the two sets of wheels will compensate.
A further advantage of this invention is that spools wound with different plant may be interchanged on the trolley.
