Abstract

A drawer support and runner comprising a member having opposed vertical recesses or slots 26,28 for engaging vertical members of a wire basket which constitutes a drawer, a first horizontal recess or slot 30 for engaging a horizontal member of said drawer, and a second horizontal recess or slot 32 extending parallel to said first horizontal recess or slot and being for engagement with a drawer support frame. The drawer support and runner is used in combination with a drawer, and a drawer support frame for supporting said drawer by a plurality of said members, said support frame comprising a plurality of generally U-shaped frames (4,6,8,10, Fig. 1) and having a plurality of support rails adapted to be engaged by said members. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Drawer support and runner This invention relates to a drawer support and runner, and to a drawer support and runner in combination with a drawer and a support frame.

According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a drawer support and runner comprising a member having opposed vertical recesses or slots for engaging vertical members of a drawer, a first horizontal recess or slot for engaging a horizontal member of said drawer, and a second horizontal recess or slot extending parallel to said first horizontal recess or slot, said second horizontal recess or slot being for engagement with a drawer support frame. Preferably, said first horizontal recess or slot is located between said vertical recesses or slots and in a different horizontal plane to said second horizontal recess or slot.

Preferably said member will be a one-piece plastics material member formed by moulding.

Said second horizontal recess or slot will preferably have a pair of guide arms associated therewith to guide a member of the drawer support frame into said recess or slot.

According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided in combination a drawer support and runner comprising a member having opposed vertical recesses or slots for engaging vertical members of a drawer, a first horizontal recess or slot for engaging a horizontal member of said drawer, and a second horizontal recess or slot extending parallel to said first horizontal recess or slot, said second horizontal recess or slot being for engagement with a drawer support frame, a drawer, and a drawer support frame for supporting said drawer by a plurality of said members, said support frame comprising a plurality of generally U-shaped frames and having a plurality of support rails adapted to be engaged by said members. Preferably said drawer will be of open mesh constructions.

Preferably, said first horizontal recess or slot is located between said vertical recesses or slots and in a different horizontal plane to said first horizontal recess or slot.

Preferably, in combination with said support frame, each drawer will carry four of said members.

In order that the invention may be more readily understood, an embodiment thereof will now be described, by way of example, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combination according to the invention; Figure 2 is a sectional elevation, to a larger scale, on line 2-2 in Fig. 1; Figure 3 is a view in the direction of arrow 3 in Fig. 2; and Figure 4 is a perspective view of the members of Figs. 2 and 3.

Referring to the drawings, and firstly to Fig.

1, a drawer support frame consists of two pairs of generally U-shaped frames 4, 6 and 8, 10. As will be seen, the frames 4 and 6 are identical, as are the frames 8 and 1 0. The frames are composed of tubular metal.

Extending between the limbs of the frames 4 and 6, are pluralities of support rails, said pluralities being indicated by reference numerals 1 2 and 14 respectively.

Each of the rails 1 2 and 14 is adapted to support an open-mesh (wire) basket or drawer - one is indicated by reference numeral 1 6 - by means of a plurality of drawer support and runner members 18, 20, 22 and 24 which are removably secured to the basket or drawer as shown. By suitably positioning the members 18, 20, 22 and 24, the members may serve as limit stops to control the forward and backward movement along the support rails - of the drawer 16 relative to the support frame.

Referring now to Fig. 4, it will be seen that the members 18, 20, 22 and 24 each consist of a one-piece member, of moulded plastics material, including opposed vertical recesses or slots 26 and 28, a first horizontal recess or slot 30, and a second horizontal recess or slot 32 which extends parallel to but in a differing horizontal plane. A pair of opposed guide arms 34 and 36 extending in the direction of the recess or slot bound the recess or slot 32.

Figs. 2 and 3 show the relationship of the members 18, 20, 22 and 24 to the basket or drawer and the rails of the support frame.

Adjacent vertical members 38 and 40 of the basket or drawer 1 6 are engaged in the vertical recesses or slots 26 and 28 of the member 18, such that the member 18 is gripped by said vertical members. To position the member 1 8 relative to the basket or drawer 16, an upper horizontal bar 42 of the basket or drawer 1 6 is engaged in the recess or slot 30. This prevents downward movement of the basket or drawer relative to the member.

As stated above, each basket or drawer will carry four support and runner members, the arrangement of the members relative to the basket or drawer being as described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3.

After positioning the members 18, 20, 22 and 24 on the basket or drawer 16, opposed support rails 1 2 and 14 are engaged in the horizontal recesses or slots 32 of the members, the guide arms 34 and 36 facilitating the entry of the support rails into the recesses or slots 32. Thus the basket or drawer is supported in the frame, and may be moved relative to the frame along the support rails.

The positioning of the members 18, 20, 22 and 24 relative to the basket or drawer 1 6 will be somewhat as shown in Fig. 1, since by suitably arranging the members, they can be used to limit the forwards and backwards movement of the basket or drawer, along the support rails, relative to the support frame.

The limbs of the U-shaped frames 4 and 6 will serve as contacts for the members 18, 20, 22 and 24.

The invention thus provides a drawer runner and support frame assembly which is relatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and which is easily assembled. In addition, the support frames can be easily disassembled for storage and transportation purposes.

Claims

1. A drawer support and runner comprising a member having opposed vertical recesses or slots for engaging vertical members of a drawer, a first horizontal recess or slot for engaging a horizontal member of said drawer, and a second horizontal recess or slot extending parallel to said first horizontal recess or slot and being for engagement with a drawer support frame.

2. A drawer support and runner according to Claim 1, wherein said first horizontal recess or slot is located between said vertical recesses or slots.

3. A drawer support and runner according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein said second horizontal recess or slot is in a different horizontal plane to said first horizontal recess or slot.

4. A drawer support and runner according to any of Claims 1 to 3, wherein said second horizontal recess or slot has a pair of guide arms associated therewith.

5. A drawer support and runner according to Claim 4, wherein said guide arms extend in the direction of the second horizontal recess or slot.

6. A drawer support and runner according to any of Claims 1 to 5, wherein said member is a one-piece plastics material member.

7. A drawer support and runner substantially as herein described with reference to and as illusrated in Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawing.

8. In combination a drawer support and runner comprising a member having opposed vertical recesses or slots for engaging vertical members of a drawer, a first horizontal recess or slot for engaging a horizontal member of said drawer, and a second horizontal recess or slot extending parallel to said first horizontal recess or slot being for engagement with a drawer support frame, a drawer, and a drawer support frame for supporting said drawer by a plurality of said members, said support frame comprising a plurality of generally U-shaped frames and having a plurality of support rails adapted to be engaged by said members.

9. A combination according to Claim 8, wherein said drawer carries four of said members.

10. A combination according to Claim 8 or Claim 9, wherein said drawer is of open mesh construction.

11. A combination according to any of Claims 8 to 10, wherein said first horizontal recess or slot is located between said vertical recesses or slots and in a different horizontal plane to said first horizontal recess or slot.
