Description
SPECIFICATION
Apparatus for washing private parts
This invention relates to an apparatus for a toilet bowl comprising a nozzle adapted to discharge water for washing the anus and its vicinity, and to a toilet bowl having such a nozzle.
A toilet bowl having a nozzle for washing the private parts is known to which water is supplied by an electromagnetic valve or an electrically driven pump. This bowl has a number of drawbacks as will hereinafter be pointed out:
(1) The nozzle does not work in cases of a power failure;
(2) The electrical apparatus is itself considerably costly and renders the toilet bowl expensive; and
(3) The utmost care is necessary to prevent any leakage of electricity and protect a person using the toilet bowl against electric shocks and this therefore, requires a costly arrangement which renders the bowl expensive.
Under these circumstances, it is an object of this invention to provide an apparatus for a toilet bowl having a nozzle for washing the private parts which does not require any electrical apparatus, and is, therefore, safe and inexpensive.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided an apparatus for supplying water for washing the private parts of a person seated on a toilet bowl, said apparatus comprising:
a hollow nozzle cylinder for connection to a water supply pipe and having a cylindrical wall formed with an opening;;
a hollow nozzle member fitted rotatably in said nozzle cylinder and having a portion extending outwardly of said nozzle cylinder, said portion having a free end provided with a discharge opening, said nozzle member being rotatable between its operative position in which said discharge opening is directed for discharging water upwardly and its inoperative position, said nozzle member having in its peripheral wall an opening which is alignable with said opening of said nozzle cylinder to enable said nozzle member to discharge water through said discharge opening when said nozzle member is in said operative position; and a handle lever connected to said nozzle member for rotating it.
According to a further aspect of this invention, there is provided a toilet bowl having an apparatus for supplying water for washing the private parts of a person seated on the toilet bowl, the apparatus comprising:
a hollow nozzle cylinder connected to a water supply pipe and having a cylindrical wall formed with an opening, said cylinder being supported by a bowl body or seat;;
a hollow nozzle member fitted rotatably in the nozzle cylinder and having a portion extending outwardly of the nozzle cylinder toward the bowl body, the portion having a free end provided with a discharge opening, the nozzle member being rotatable between its operative position in which the discharge opening is directed upwardly and its inoperative position, the nozzle member having in its peripheral wall an opening which is alignable with the opening of the nozzle cylinder to enable the nozzle member to discharge water through the discharge opening when the nozzle member is in its operative position; and
a handle lever connected to the nozzle member for rotating it.
According to this invention, the supply of washing water and its discontinuation are effected completely mechanically by the handle lever. The apparatus of this invention, therefore, solves all of the drawbacks of the conventional apparatus which arise from the use of electricity, and ensures the complete safety of a person using the toilet bowl against any danger of electric shocks. It does not require any costly arrangement for preventing the leakage of electrcity, and is very inexpensive to manufacture.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a schematic side elevational view of a toilet bowl embodying this invention;
FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken along the line X-X of FIG
URE 1; and
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken along the line Y-Y of FIGURE 2.
In FIGURE 1 of the drawings, a toilet bowl embodying this invention is shown which comprises a bowl body 2. A stop valve 1 is provided in a water supply pipe 1 5 extending from a source of water supply. The water supply pipe 1 5 downstream of the stop valve 1 is divided at 8 into a main line 3 connected to a ball tap 5 in a water tank 4 for supplying water for flushing the bowl body 2 and an auxiliary line 7 for supplying water for washing the private parts of a person in the seated position. Although the point 8 of line division is not necessarily limited to being downstream of the stop valve 1, this arrangement is preferable in view of the maintenance of the lines 3 and 7.The line 7 is connected to a hollow nozzle cylinder 9 which is secured to the underside of a seat 1 0. The nozzle cylinder 9 has a cylindrical wall formed with an opening 11 through which water may be introduced into the nozzle cylinder 9. The opening 11 is shown in FIGURE 3.
Referring to FIGURES 2 and 3, a hollow nozzle member 6 is rotatably connected to the nozzle cylinder 9. The nozzle member 6 comprises a straight base portion 6a which is fitted in the nozzle cylinder 9 rotatably about its own axis, and a curved projection portion 6b extending from the base portion 6a substantially at right angles thereto and having a curved contour which is substantially conformable to the curved inner surface of the bowl body 2. A handle lever 1 2 is connected to the outer end of the base portion 6a of the nozzle member 6 and located on one side of the bowl body 2. The lever 1 2 can be turned by a person seated on the seat 10 to rotate the base portion 6a about its axis. The rotation of the base portion 6a about its own axis causes the curved portion 6b to rotate between its inoperative position and its operative position.
The curved portion 6b has at its free end at least one discharge opening 1 3 which is directed upwardly when the curved portion 6b is rotated into its operative position. The base portion 6a is provided in its peripheral wall with an opening 14 which is alignable with the opening 11 of the nozzle cylinder 9 as shown in FIGURE 2 when the curved portion 6b is rotated into its operative position, so that water may flow into the nozzle member 6 and be discharged through the discharge opening 1 3.
