Abstract

A clip for fixing loose slates. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Slate clip This invention relates to a slate clip.
In the course of time, slates become loose of their fixing due to either the slate perishing or because of complete rusting of the nails holding the slates fixed to the roof battens. When this happens, it is difficult to refix due to the fact that it is impossible to renail due to the higher slate being firmly secured.
The remedy in this instance is to use the slate clip covered by the illustrations '1-5', which, when inserted in the slate and with the slate pushed into position will have caused legs 'B' to spring down and become anchored behind the appropriate batten.
A Slate Clip is formed from spring steel bent to the shape indicated on the plan.
In order to fix the Slate Clip, it is necessary to re-hole the slate approximately 3/4" higher than the original nail holding at 6" centres.
The Slate Clip is introduced to the slate and pushed up beneath slate fixed to a higher batten.
When the clip passes by the fixing batten for the slate, the tail springs downwards, (the flat top of the clip being pressed firmly onto the face of the slate by the slate above) and hooks behind the batten.
1. A wire slate clip formed in such a way as to preclude visable fixings liable to damage. The clip being inserted in the slate then becomes anchored to the slate fixing batten.
2. Awire slate clip as claimed in 'Claim 1' in that it is used to anchor slates without the use of nails, obviating possible loosening of other slates due to possible nail sickness.
3. A wire slate clip as claimed in 'Claim 1' or '2' wherein slate and clip are refixed in one operation.
