Abstract

This invention relates to a sinker ring cover of a single cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery goods, wherein there are fixed interior cams (9) and movable exterior cams (71) embraced by an annular spring (8). The invention provides cam positioning so that the sinkers press on the fabric with a constant pressure for any fabric density, which is achieved by the movable exterior cams (71) being placed in the lid (11) on guiding pins (13) without stops, the cams (71) pressing the sinker butts against the cams (9) before the pins (13) reach the end of their guiding slots, but when there is fabric on the needles the spring (8) does not achieve such engagement between the sinker butts and the cams (9). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Sinker Ring Cover This invention relates to a sinker ring cover of a single cylinder circular knitting machine designed for the production of hosiery goods, wherein there are fixed interior cams and movable exterior cams embraced by an annular spring.
It is known that with machines designed to produce the pantyhose there is a requirement for a wide range of fabric densities to meet the necessary large extensibility in the seat portion, but at the same time the necessity of a considerable densening in the instep and sole.
The fabric quality must be of course satisfactory.
This requirement can be met only by variable knock over length. A single cylinder hosiery knitting machine is known, where in the place of clearing there is arranged an auxiliary flopper cam in the path of the knock over sinkers, when knitting a loose fabric, the flopper cam assists to larger knock over of the sinkers and in denser portion of the goods said cam is out of action.
Further a single cylinder hosiery knitting machine is known which is provided with movable exterior sinker cams which are embraced with a strong annular spring which holds the cams against adjustable stops. Each cam is provided with two guide pins which move in radial grooves in the sinker ring cover. Adjustable stops do not permit the cams to be moved behind a certain optimum sinking position of the cam. Said adjustable position is the same with any fabric density. The cams essentially act as fixed cams with the possibility to adjust the knock over depth. The annular spring releases the cams only in case when there is a breakdown and loading-up of the fabric on the needles. In the cams between the functional edge and the interior cam ring there is always a passage channel for the butts of the knock over sinkers with a considerable clearance.
The object of this invention is to create a design of the cams in the sinker ring cover so that the knock over sinkers act upon the fabric with a constant pressure with any fabric density.
According to the invention there is provided a sinker ring cover for a single cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery goods, comprising fixed interior cams and movable exterior cams embraced by an annular spring, the movable exterior cams being located on a lid on guiding pins without stops, while the annular spring does not press butts of knock over sinkers onto the fixed interior cams when knitting.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows a sinker ring cover for a four-feed knitting machine; Fig. 2 shows the location of an exterior movable sinker cam in the cover and Fig. 3 is a partial axial section through the needle cylinder and the sinker ring.
A known single cylinder four-feed circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery goods is provided with a needle cylinder 1 (Fig. 3), in the tricks 3 of which there are shiftably movable knitting needles 3 which co-operate with the knock over sinkers 4. The knock over sinkers 4 are located shiftably movable in the tricks 5 of the sinker ring 6, which is firmly connected with the needle cylinder 1. Four exterior movable sinker cams 71, 72, 73 and 74 (Fig. 1) embraced by an annular spring 8 and an interior fixed sinker ring 9 serve to control the knock over sinkers 4. The interior fixed sinker ring 9 is fixedly arranged by means of screws 10 on the lid 11.Exterior sinker cams 71-74 are mounted each like the cam 71, movably in radial groove 14 in lid 11 by means of screw 12 and pin 13, as shown also in Fig. 2, without the end stop, because the end of the radial groove 14 is at such a distance from the center, that the cams 71-74 rather press the butts of the knock over sinkers 4 onto the interior sinker ring 9, before the pin 13 stops at the end of the radial groove 14. The lid 11 of the sinker ring 6 is fixed, and it is mounted on an axial bearing 1 5, the movable part of which is connected with the sinker ring 6.
The operation of the above described mechanism is as follows. Motion of the knock over sinkers out and in during knitting is controlled by the interior sinker ring 9 and exterior sinker cams 71-74. The annular spring 8 is selected so that it exerts through the exterior sinker cams 71-74 a constant low pressure on the knock over sinkers 4 and thus also on the fabric being knitted. Due to the action of the annular spring 8 and a stop-less arrangement of the exterior sinker cams 71-74, the knock over sinkers 4 exert a constant pressure on the fabric with any fabric density. If there is no fabric on the needles 3, the circular spring presses the exterior sinker cams 71-74 up to the stop of the butts of the knock over sinkers 4 bearing against the interior sinker ring 9, which is not the case during knitting. Exemplary embodiment of the sinker ring cams if for a four-feed machine, the same relationships hold true even for a multi-feed machine, i.e. eight-feed machine, while the interior sinker ring may be replaced by fixed arcuate cams.
1. A sinker ring cover for a single cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery goods, comprising fixed interior cams and movable exterior cams embraced by an annular spring, the movable exterior cams being located on a lid on guiding pins without stops, while the annular spring does not press butts of knock over sinkers onto the fixed interior cams when knitting.
2. A sinker ring cover according to claim 1, wherein the guiding pin of each movable exterior cam is placed in a radial groove in the lid while the end of the radial groove nearer the center is at such a distance, that when pressing the knock over sinkers onto the fixed interior cams, said pin does not bear against the end of the radial groove.
