Photo-mechanical printing-surfaces.-Consists in a method of preparing a proof-corrected original of type matter for the production of a printing plate by a photographic process, in which faulty portions of the original are replaced by strips having correctly prepared portions thereon, these strips and the correct portions of the original being assembled in overlapping relation. The original is slit or severed, or the faulty portions are cut out to enable the strips to be assembled. A sheet, Fig. 2, bearing the matter to be reproduced, is prepared and faulty lines or groups of lines are prepared correctly on a separate sheet leaving large spaces between the groups of lines. In one method of assembling the parts as shown in Fig. 1, the original is severed adjacent to the line following an incorrect line or groups of lines. The strip b bearing the corrected portion is severed from its sheet above the top line and placed over the incorrect lines of the part a of the original. The next correct part c of the original is then placed over the blank part of the strip b. In another method of assembling the parts as shown in Fig. 3, the faulty lines are removed from the original and the correct portions a<1>, c<1> placed above blank spaces in the strips b<1> beaming the corrected lines. To facilitate cutting the sheet between the lines, guide marks may be provided on the margins. Column lines and the frame lines of advertisements may be inserted after the parts of the corrected sheet have been assembled.
