Abstract

Moulding by hand.-A dental wax knife for use in setting up artificial teeth on a wax model of a denture is heated by means of an electric resistance mounted within the blade. The blade, blade holder, and the contained resistance form a unit interchangeably mounted on the handle of the instrument which is fitted with a switch. In the form shown a hollow blade 1, formed with a tubular rear portion which is a tight fit within .an insulating sleeve 4, contains a resistance coil 3 wound upon mica. The sleeve 4 is formed with a threaded boss to which the tubular handle is attached. A sleeve 12 sliding on the handle of the tool carries a metal rod 7 which may be moved to make or break connection between a tube 6 and the tubular end of a conductor 13 forming part of the electric circuit. The strength of the current may be varied by inserting one or more lamps in the external part of the circuit, or by means of a variable resistance mounted within or upon the tool handle. In a modification, the tool is fitted with a simple tubular handle through which the insulated conductors are passed.
