Abstract

The furniture hinge for connecting a door 3 or a flap to the body 7 of an article of furniture is provided with a mounting plate 6 which can be fixed to the body of the article of furniture, and a hinge arm 1 which is releasably secured to the mounting plate. The hinge arm has detent teeth 4 which co-operate with respective rows of teeth 8 which are provided on laterally projecting bar portions 9 of the mounting plate. The hinge arm 1 is also provided with an eccentric 10 which has an actuating bar portion 12 and an eccentrically extending, resilient tongue portion 13 which, in an intermediate position of the eccentric, co-operates with a resilient tongue portion of the mounting plate so that there is partial engagement of the detent teeth 4 into the gaps between the teeth of the row 8, while however the hinge arm can be displaced relative to the mounting plate, into the final mounting position. In that final position, the eccentric 10 is moved into its clamping position in which clamping surfaces of the eccentric bear against the upper surfaces of the bar portions 9 of the mounting plate. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Furniture hinge This invention relates to a furniture hinge for connecting a door or a flap to the body of an article of furniture, comprising a mounting plate which can be fixed to the body of the article of furniture and a hinge arm which is releasably securable to the mounting plate.
Furniture hinges of that kind are known, in which the hinge arm is fixed to the mounting plate by means of screws. The heads of the screws bear against the edge portion of a slot which is provided in the hinge arm and which permits adjustment of the hinge arm in its longitudinal direction relative to the mounting p!ate.
The invention is based on the problem of so designing a furniture hinge of the kind set forth above, that the hinge arm can be fixed to the mounting plate after fine adjustment relative thereto, without screws, and a pre-arresting action occurs when the hinge arm is pushed onto the mounting plate.
According to the invention the mounting plate and the hinge arm have detent means which cooperate when the hinge arm is pushed onto the mounting plate and the hinge arm can be arrested in the final mounting position by means of an eccentric which is rotatably mounted on the hinge arm and which bears against the mounting plate.
In an advantageous embodiment of the furniture hinge according to the invention, the mounting plate is provided with at least one row of teeth which extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the mounting plate, and the hinge arm has at least one detent tooth which resiliently cooperates with the row of teeth during the assembly stroke movement of the hinge arm and which in the final mounting position can be positively fixed in the respective detent recess by means of the eccentric.
By virtue of the provision of the row of teeth on the mounting plate, and the detent tooth on the hinge arm, co-operating resiliently with the row of teeth during the mounting stroke movement of the hinge arm, it is possible for the hinge arm to be finely adjusted relative to the mounting plate during the mounting stroke movement of the hinge arm. When the hinge arm is pushed onto the mounting plate, the door is secured to the other hinge member which is pivotally connected to the hinge arm, and moved into the closed position. After the hinge arm has reached the final assembly position which corresponds to the optimum position of the door with respect to the body of the article of furniture, the door is moved into the open position so that the eccentric of the hinge arm is accessible. The eccentric is then pivoted into its clamping position and positively and force-lockingly fixes the hinge arm with respect to the mounting plate. For the purposes of removing the hinge arm or for altering the position of the hinge arm with respect to the mounting plate, the eccentric must first be moved into an intermediate position or into the starting position, which permits the hinge arm to be easily removed from the mounting plate.
An embodiment of the invention is described hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: In Figures 1 to 3, a door which is joined to a hinge and a body of an article of furniture which is fitted with a mounting plate are shown separately from each other.
Figure 1 shows a view in horizontal section of the door and the body of the article of furniture, with a furniture hinge of the invention, Figure 2 is a view in the direction indicated by arrow II in Figure 1, Figure 3 is a view in section taken along line Ill-Ill in Figure 2, Figure 4 is a partly sectional view of the furniture hinge of Figure 1 at the end of the mounting stroke movement of the hinge arm, but with an eccentric illustrated in an intermediate position, Figure 5 shows the furniture hinge shown in Figure 4, but in section in respect of the detent means provided on the hinge arm and on the mounting plate, Figure 6 shows a view on an enlarged scale of the portion indicated by VI in Figure 5, and Figure 7 shows the furniture hinge with the eccentric in the clamping position.
The furniture hinge of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 7 has a hinge arm 1 which is of a Ushaped cross-section and which is connected to a hinge cup 2 by link bars (not shown). The hinge cup 2 is let into a recess in a door 3, and secured therein.
At the end remote from the axis of rotation of the furniture hinge, the hinge arm 1 is provided with one, preferably two detent teeth 4, each disposed at the inside of a respective side wall 5 of the hinge arm. When the hinge arm 1 is pushed onto a mounting plate 6 which is fixed to the body 7 of the article of furniture, the detent or latching teeth 4 co-operate with one, preferably two rows of teeth 8 on the mounting plate 6. In the illustrated embodiment, the mounting plate 6 is provided with outwardly projecting bar portions 9 each of which are provided with a row of teeth 8 at the side which is towards the securing side of the mounting plate.
At the end remote from the axis of rotation of the hinge, the hinge arm 1 is provided with an eccentric 10 which is mounted rotatably on a pin 11 secured to the hinge arm. In the embodiment illustrated, the eccentric 10 is mounted rotatably about an axis which extends parallel to the axis of rotation of the furniture hinge. In the illustrated embodiment, the eccentric is in the form of a shaped or moulded plastics member and has an actuating bar portion 12. The eccentric is provided with an eccentrically disposed resilient tongue portion 1 3 which is arranged centrally and which, in an intermediate position of the eccentric as shown in Figures 4 and 5, co-operates with a tongue portion 14 of the mounting plate 6.By virtue of that arrangement, with the eccentric 10 in the intermediate position, upon the assembly stroke movement of the hinge arm relative to the mounting plate 6, a force-locking engagement is made between the hinge arm 1 and the mounting plate 6, which causes the detent teeth 4 to come partially into engagement with the spaces between the teeth of the row 8. A partial resilient engagement of that nature is shown on an enlarged scale in Figure 6. With the detent teeth partially resiliently engaged into the gaps between the teeth of the row of teeth 8, it is possible for the hinge arm 1 to be finely adjusted with respect to the mounting plate 6. Then, in the final assembly position, the eccentric 10 is moved into the clamping position which is the position shown in Figure 7. On both sides of the tongue portion 13, the eccentric 10 has clamping surfaces 1 5 which, in the clamping position of the eccentric, bear against the portions 9 of the mounting plate 6. In the clamping position of the eccentric 10, the actuating bar portion 1 2 is substantially flush with the upper surface of the hinge arm 1.
At its rearward end, the hinge arm 1 has a web portion 1 6 which extends in an arcuate configuration and which is provided with a projection 1 7 which co-operates with the resilient tongue portion 1 3 of the eccentric in the intermediate position of the latter, so that the eccentric is force-lockingly arrested in its intermediate position.
