Seed distributors.-Apparatus for sowing corn in wide rows and near the surface of the soil, and other seeds at any required depth, comprises a compound frame adapted to be attached to the transverse coulter-lever bar of a drill and carrying a revolving disc 1, a coulter 2, clod-movers 3, seed-ooverers 7, and an adjustable roller or pair of wheels 4. The disc 1 has a sharp cutting-edge and is adjustably mounted on an adjustable frame consisting of bars 11, 12, 13. The coulter 2 is reversible and is bolted to a frame 5 spanning the disc-carrying frame and consisting of two parallel bars bent up at the forward end and adjustably connected to the disc-carrying frame. The coulter 2 is triangular in plan with a cutter blade at the front. Inside the coulter is a seed-spreader comprising an inclined plate 27, Fig. 3, and a vertical plate 28 parallel to the back plate of the coulter. Above the coulter is a funnel 29 into which passes a spout for conveying seeds from the drill. The clod-movers 3 consist of a bent plate adjustably bolted to the back plate of the coulter 2. The seed-covering plates 31 are adjustably mounted on a frame 32 which is adjustable vertically by means of a screwed rod 34 passing through notched plates clamped on the frame 5 and supporting the frame 32. The wheels 4 are mounted on a frame 42 pivoted on the frame 5 and adjustable to vary the depth of work of the coulter by means of a screw 48 passing through swivelling plates. The rims of the wheels project on one side. A roller may be substituted for the wheels. A loop 10 is provided for lifting purposes. Pressure is put on the bars 13 by the press bar of the drill and may be transmitted to the frame 5 by an adjustable bolt 52. When the bolt is removed the coulter is held down by gravity only. The upper ends of the bars 11 are connected by a bolt to two lugs on a slotted plate 54 which is clamped on one side of the transverse coulter-lever bar of the drill by means of bolts and a similar slotted plate 53 on the other side of the bar. The clamping-plates at the ends of the transverse bar are longer than the others and are provided with four lugs. Scrapers 61 are provided for the disc 1 and wheels 4. According to the Provisional Specification, the seeds are scattered bv being thrown against a plate by the flattened and curved end of the seed spout within the coulter.
