Abstract

In a goods display stand the shelf brackets each comprise a base 26 having at each end a respective hooked claw 28; and the upright is slotted at 11 along both edges; the arrangement being such that the bracket is first engaged as shown in Fig 2a with a claw on each side of the upright, and is then rotated to the position shown in dashed lines in Fig 2b whereby to introduce the claws 28 into the slots 11, and is then lowered rectilinearly to the position shown in full lines in Fig 2b whereby to engage the hooks 29 on the edges of the slots. The uprights are parts of a stand which also includes feet and cross braces. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Display stand The invention relates to a display stand.
It is known that display stand structures, which can be adapted to meet changing requirements for the displaying of goods in shops and stores, can be constructed from standard components which are attached to column, wall or frame elements by means of screw and/or clamping connectors. An advantage of such stand structures is that they can be assembled and dismantled quickly by staff with no special training, and the components can be handled easily and without complication.
Difficulties arise where sheet-like frame structures as supporting means for shelves, brackets and the like are to be erected to be free-standing in display and sales spaces and can be supported only by foot elements which are easily displaceable on the ground. It must be possible not only to attach such shelves and brackets designed as goods supporting elements to the frame structure in a convenient way, but also to connect them to the frame structure so as to ensure stability.
According to the invention there is provided a display stand comprising a support frame including column members provided with longitudinally spaced anchoring portions alternating with recesses, and load supporting elements adapted to be releasably secured to the column members, such elements each including spaced claw-like portions arranged to be lockingly engaged with respective ones of said anchoring portions upon pivotal and longitudinal movement of the element relative to a respective column member.
At least in a preferred embodiment a goods display stand has a frame structure which can be erected so as to be free-standing on the floor by means of foot elements, in which the load supporting elements are provided with anchoring means which can be fastened in the frame structure as the result of a simple locking engagement.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is described below by way of example with reference to the drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a goods display stand in accordance with the invention; Figures 1 a and 1 b show a column member in side elevation and cross-section respectively; Figures 2a and 2b show the connection of a cantilever or bracket element to the column member according to Figures 1 a and 1 b in two stages of connection; and Figures 3a and 3b show sectional views along the lines Illa--llla and Illb--lllb in Figures 2a and 2b, illustrating how the cantilever or bracket element is attached and fixed to the supporting column.
A goods display stand as shown in Figure 1 comprises a stand frame 1 preferably composed of metal profile portions 1', 1", 1"' and 1"". The profile portions 1" and 1"" are in the form of column members and are provided with foot extension portions 1.1" and 1.1"" to each of which a pair of foot brackets 2 is connected. A shelf panel 3, is supported on supporting elements 4', 4 and 30 shown on a larger scale in Figures 2a, 2b and 3a, 3b and inserted releasably in the column profile. Stand frames of this type can be extended practically at will in a linear or angled formation by coupling further column members by means of additional cross pieces in the form of connecting elements (not shown) which are identical or similar to the profile portions 1', L"' or which may be different.
Figures 1 a and 1 b show respectively in side elevation and cross-section a profile form suitable at least for the profile form suitable at least for the profile portions 1" and 1"" constituting the column members. The column profile designated generally by 5 has two flanges 5.1, 5.1 which are arranged as mirror images relative to the longitudinal plane of symmetry Y-Y and which are connected to one another by means of connecting webs 7.7 so that they each form an outer engagement groove 6 on either side of the transverse axis X-X. The column profile 5 contains a cavity 8, the dimensions of which allow it to receive hook-member parts which will be described later and which engage into the profile from both sides.Dovetail grooves 9, preferably for receiving decorative bars 5' (Figure 3), are fashioned in the two outer faces of the profile flanges 5.1, 5.1. The narrow profile sides are provided with chamfers 10 which are symmetrical relative to the V-V plane and which can perform a guide function, shown in Figure 3, 6, and be intended for decorative purposes. The bevels 10 illustrated form a taper angle a with one another.
According to Figure 1 b, the connecting webs 7, 7 are provided with apertures 11 which are preferably arranged at equal distances from one another (interval distance b) over the entire length of the column profile and into which the hook members already mentioned are intended to engage, as described below with reference to Figures 2, 2b and 3a, 3b.
According to Figure 1 a, the column profile 5 is designed symmetrically both as regards the X-axis and as regards the Y-axis. Furthermore, the longitudinal section through the column profile according to Figures 2a and 2b shows that the apertures 11 of the connecting webs 7 are provided essentially at the same height or at the same length dimension of the profile bar on both sides of the X-axis. This result, for these two profile parts, in a uniform distribution pattern which can be used to connect supporting means which engage sideways.
In Figures 2a, 2b, and 3a, 3b, 26 denotes a clamping plate consisting of a flat rectangular central supporting body 26', at the two narrowside ends of which are located claw members 27 arranged diagonally or alternately relative to one another. By means of clamping plates of this type, bracket and cantilever elements can be fastened to the column profile 5 or to the profile portions 1" and 1"" by means of simple pivoting engagement in a way described later. The claw members 27 have a suspension hook 28 which is, in general, formed on the central supporting body 26 via a supporting yoke 27' and which consists essentially of a nose 28' and an engagement slot 29.The suspension hooks 28 are essentially parallel to the flat central body 26' and are arranged at a distance a (Figures 2a and 2b) from one another which is an integral multiple, preferably 1, of the intervals b (Figure 2a) between the apertures 11 on the column profile 5, but corresponds at least to the width of the column profile 5 (Figure 2). The supporting yokes 27' are advantageously bent so as to correspond to the narrow-wide contour of the column profile 5, above all for aesthetic reasons. They carry the suspension hooks 28 in such a way that when the central supporting body 26' is applied for the purpose of installation on the stand these are located at the "height" of the profile apertures 11.
To attach the clamping plate 26 to a profile portion 1 ",1 ttn, according to Figures 2a and 2b the goods supporting element (bracket support 30 or cantilever arm 31) is applied laterally to the column profile 5 at approximately 900 (Figures 2a) relative to its final position. As shown in Figure 3a, the claw members 27 are at the same time located at a distance outside the narrow sides of the profile. The suspension hooks 28 are in line with the engagement grooves 6 in the column profile 5 and lie in the same planes. The clamping plate 26 is located at a height, in relation to the column profile 5, where the claw members 27 are located opposite, for example, an upper (on the left) and a lower (on the right) connecting web 7.
The goods supporting element, together with the clamping plate 26, is then pivoted in an anticlockwise direction (arrow E), the suspension hooks 28 engaging in the apertures 11. After complete rotation of the clamping plate 26 through 900, they are then in the position shown by the broken lines in Figures 2b. The engagement slots 29 open towards the same side now "face" downwards and, as a result of a vertical downward sliding movement of the clamping plate 26 (arrow F), the upper ends of the respective connecting webs 7 engage in the slots 29. In this position, the goods supporting element (bracket support 30, cantilever arms 31) connected to the clamping plate 26 is secured both against falling out and slipping off and against rotation relative to the column profile 5.
This results in a very effective vibration-proof pivoting and sliding lock. The connection is released in reverse order of the movements without the need for any tool, just as when the connection is made.
