Abstract

A holding device for identification plates has a carrying neck 4 moulded on the underside 1' of a frame-like plate-holder 1 with a central viewing orifice 2. The longitudinal axis 4' of the carrying neck 4 lies in the plate plane of the holder 1. The carrying neck 4 consists of an indexing portion g and a locking portion 10 and rests in the centering collar 6 on the top side of a carrying member 5 which can be attached onto a supporting device 7 by means of two resilient legs 5'. The carrying neck 4 is retained in a through-orifice consisting of two portions 12, 13 in the centering collar 6, in such a way that, in a pulled-out or disengaged position of the indexing portion 9, the two parts are freely rotatable relative to one another, whereas in a pushed- together engagement position, in which the indexing portion 9 is located in the region of an indexing orifice 12 of the centering collar 6, they are locked against rotation. The plate-holder 1 and carrying member (5) can both be moulded in one piece and are connected unreleasably to one another by a single manipulation. After the indexing regions 9, 12 have been disconnected, the two parts are rotatable or adjustable relative to one another. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Holding device for identification plates The invention relates to a holding device for identification plates.
To denote sizes or numbers of articles, especially articles of laundry or clothing, stored or offered for sale on carrying frames or presentation stands, it is customary to use holding devices for exchangeable insert cards and the like. An essential requirement here is that, besides being able to use (insert and remove) the labelling elements on the holding device without damage, the labelling should be as legible as it possibly can be. This means that a reasonable freedom of movement should exist between the carrying member of the holding device, usually to be connected to the carrying frame or the presentation stand, and the holder part receiving the labelling element.
According to the present invention there is provided a holding device for identification plates, with a frame-like plate-holder and a carrying member which retains the plate-holder in a preselectable relative pivoting position and which is intended for fastening the plateholder on a supporting device, characterised in that the plate-holder is provided with a carrying neck which projects from its frame structure and is aligned axially with the plate plane and which engages into a centering collar moulded on the carrying member.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a holding device designed according to the invention, with a front view of the plate-holder and the carrying member, Figure 2a shows the parts of the device in partial sectional representations and in a pulled-apart position, Figure 2b shows the parts of the device according to Fig. 2a inserted into one another and ready for operation, Figures 3a and 3b show sections along the line Ill-Ill in Fig. 2b of two exemplary engagement zones of different designs between the carrying neck of the plate-holder and the centering collar of the carrying member, and Figure 4 shows a section along the line IV-IV in Fig. 2b.
Fig. 1 shows a frame-like plate-holder 1 with a central orifice 2, a plate groove 3 which is designed on the top side of the holder as an insertion slit 3' passing through the frame, and a carrying neck 4 moulded on the underside 1' of the holder or frame. This carrying neck rests in the through-orifice of a centering collar 6 moulded on the top end of a carrying member 5. The carrying member 5 illustrated is designed to be used with a supporting device or an arm in the form of an oval tube 7 indicated by broken lines and possesses, on both sides of the centering collar 6, resiliently flexible clamping legs 5' extending downwards. The distal ends 5" of these are so designed and spaced so far apart from one another that the carrying member can be attached simply from above onto the arm or oval tube 7 and forced approximately vertically downwards into the holding position. Spacers 8 on the insides of the legs make it easier to match the legs to the surface of the arm or tube.
According to Fig. 2a, the carrying neck on the plate-holder 1 consists essentially of an indexing portion 9 and a locking portion 10.
These two portions, arranged in succession, are connected to a connection block 11 moulded on the underside 1' of the holder or frame. The centering collar 6 at the top end of the carrying member 5 contains an indexing through-orifice 1 2 preferably having a crosssection complementary (with play) to that of the indexing portion 9 on the carrying neck 4, and a preferably cylindrical housing orifice 1 3 continuing the indexing through-orifice underneath it. The two orifices 1 2 and 1 3 are aligned axially with one another, Fig. 2b shows the interaction of the parts 9 and 10 of the carrying neck 4 and the orifices 1 2 and 1 3 in the centering collar 6 and carrying member 5 respectively. The locking portion 10 is designed by means of a diagonal slit or several radial slits 1 5 so that locking tongues 1 6 which can be pressed radially inwards flexibly and which have locking hooks 16' result at the bottom end of the indexing portion 9. A locking portion 10 slit crosswise is shown in section in Fig. 4. When the plate-holder 1 or its carrying neck 4 are inserted into the centering collar 6 or the through-orifices 12,13, the locking tongues 16, which are appropriately bevelled somewhat at their distal end, are forced radially inwards by the narrowed portion formed by the indexing through-orifice 12, until the locking hooks 16' can pass. After they have passed, the tongues 1 6 snap back elastically, so that a lock against pulling-out is obtained between the locking hooks 16' and a stop shoulder 13' in the bottom of the housing orifice 1 3. The locking hooks 16' are formed so far down on the tongues 1 6 that they ensure the desired locking of the plate-holder 1 on the carrying member 5 before the indexing portion 9 on the carrying neck 4 has penetrated into the indexing through-orifice 1 2. As a result, it is possible to select, between the plate-holder 1 and the carrying member 5, any relative position, but of course one predetermined by the shape of the index ing through-orifice 1 2 and the indexing portion 9, and then to bring the two main parts 1, 5 of the device into the position of use shown in Fig. 2b by pushing them further into one another.
Figs. 3a and 3b show examples of the cross-sectional design of the indexing throughorifices 1 2 and the indexing portions 9 having preferably a complementary profile. Fig. 3a shows, as representative of other equilateral polygonal configurations, a square positionindexing arrangement by means of which the plate-holder 1 can be brought into four specific positions in relation to the carrying member 5. Fig. 3b shows a star-like toothing between the through-orifice 1 2 and the indexing portion 9, by means of which a larger number of fixed positions corresponding to the toothed division can be selected. It goes without saying that the complete toothing is necessary here on one of the two indexing zones only, whilst the other zone need only have a reasonable number of reference engagement regions.
The holding device illustrated in the drawing has the following main advantages: -the plate-holder 1 and carrying member 5 can each be made in a single operation by plastic injection moulding, consequently, the most suitable materials, if need be also coordinated with one another as regards colour, can be selected for the two parts 1, 5, -the plate-holder 1 and carrying member 5 can be connected unreleasably to one another by a single manipulation, and changes in the relative position between the two parts can be made simply, and the carrying member does not have to be lifted off from its support.
