Abstract

The panel 10 has a plurality of parallel, protruding strips 12 with a T- shaped cross section capable of holding a plurality of article support devices which may be C-shaped brackets 20 to be slidably engaged with the protrusions, or T-shaped brackets to slidably fit into the T- shaped slot formed in between each two adjacent protruding strips 12. The panel is engaged with other like panels by means of hooks 14 and spur edge 13. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Wall Panel Background of the Invention This invention relates to wall panels, more particularly to a wall panel having a plurality of Tshaped protruding strips parallelly integrally formed thereon.
The walls of the interior of buildings and houses are generally covered with flat materiais such as wooden or plastic panels or wall papers. These conventional panels or wall papers provide no means for hanging or supporting household articles. When one wants to hang a picture, a clock or a trophy, for example, nails or adhesive hangers are frequently used. However, nails may ruin the wall and adhesive hangers are incapable of holding relatively heavy articles. Furthermore, it is not easy to remove nails or adhesive hangers without damaging the surface of the wall or leaving undesirable marks on the wall when the articles that have been supported there are relocated.
In view of aforesaid problems this invention provides a novel wall panel having a plurality of parallel protruding strips with a T-shaped cross section capable of holding a plurality of hangers which may be a C-shaped bracket to be slidably engaged with the protrusions, or T-shaped bracket to slidably fit into a T-shaped slot formed in between each two adjacent protruding strips.
Therefore, it is the main object of this invention to provide a wall panel that is capable of supporting articles thereon without the need of nails or adhesive hangers.
It is another object of this invention to provide a wall panel on which articles can be supported and relocated without damaging the surface of the wall or having an undesirable mark on the wall.
Brief Description of the Drawings Fig. 1 is an oblique, perspective view of a wall panel of this invention, having one C-shaped bracket thereon for illustrative purposes.
Fig. 2 is an oblique perspective view of a Cshaped bracket employed in association with the wall panel of this invention.
Fig. 3 is an oblique, perspective view of a wall panel of this invention having several C-shaped brackets showing one example of its actual use.
Fig. 4 and 5 are, respectively, oblique, perspective views of alternative types of brackets applicable to the wall panel of this invention.
Detailed Description of the Invention As shown in Fig. 1 , the wall panel of this invention is designated by 10, which comprises a base plate 11 provided with a plurality of parallel, protruding strips 12 each having a T-shaped cross-section and being intergrally formed on one side of base plate 1 , the protruding strips 1 2 each being provided with a web plate 1 2A generally perpendicular to base plate 11 and a shoulder plate 1 2B generally in parallel with base plate 11. Furthermore, protruding strips are arranged in parallel with each other and in between each two adjacent protruding strips there is formed a suitable gap G between the edges of two shoulder plates 1 2B so that a T-shaped slot 1 5 is formed in between each two adjacent protruding strips 1 2.One edge of the wall panel 10 in parallel with protruding strips 12 is formed into a U-shaped hook 14 while the opposite edge is formed into a channel having spur edge 13 so that the wall panels may be connected by engaging U-shaped edge 14 of one wall panel over spur edge 13 of the other wall panel. The wall panels 10, as described above, are to be fixedly attached to a wall with protruding strips 12 arranged horizontally.
In one embodiment of this invention the wall panel 10 is provided with C-shaped brackets 20 as shown in Fig. 2. C-shaped bracket 20 comprises plate 21 having two opposite edges 22 23 formed inwardly so as to foFm a generally Cshaped cross-section, and a bar 24 fixedly protruding from the side of plate 21 opposite the C-shaped cross-section. C-shaped bracket 20 is adapted to slidably engage with shoulder plate 1 2B of protruding strip 12 of wall panel 10 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, so that bar 24 protrudes from the wall surface and can be used as a shelfsupport or as a hangrail, as shown in Fig. 3.
Figs. 4 and 5 show alternative types of brackets applicable to the wall panel 10 of this invention. In Fig. 4 bracket 30 is provided with a rectangular base member 31 and a flat bar member 32 protruding from one side of base plate 31 so as to resemble a "T". Bar member 32 may be welded to or integrally formed with base member 31.
Fig. 5 shows a similar construction, wherein bracket 40 is provided with a rectangular base member 41 and a round bar member 42 so as to resemble a parasol. Bar member 42 may be welded to or integrally formed with base member 41.
Brackets 30 and 40 may be mounted to the wall panel 10 of Fig. 1, with base member 31, or 41 slidably inserted into T-slot 15, with bar member 32 or 42 extending through gap G, so that brackets 30 or 40 may be used to support or to hang articles at any position on the wall.
1. A wall panel, comprising: a base plate; a plurality of protruding strips each having a web generally perpendicular to said base plate and a shoulder plate generally in parallel with said base plate to form a T-shaped cross section, said protruding strips being integrally formed on one side of said base plate and arranged parallelly with a suitable space provided between each two adjacent protruding strips; a first edge in parallel with said protruding strips and formed into a hook having a U-shaped cross section; a channel-shaped second edge opposite to said first edge, said second edge having a bent in spur
