Abstract

A closure assembly for a bottle or the like which acts both to seal and provide a pouring aperture for the bottle comprises a cap 1 having a skirt 6 provided on its inside face with vertical grooves (not shown) which skirt receives a cylindrical ring 5 provided with exterior grooves connected to a pouring member 2. The ring 5 and member 2 and integrally moulded and joined by a zone of weakness which breaks when the assembly is fully screwed home. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in and relating to a sealing and distribution device This invention relates to a sealing and distribution device intended to be fixed on a receptacle containing a liquid product.
Such a device in accordance with the invention comprises in its interior upper part a cylindrical skirt provided on its interior with vertical grooves, which is intended to receive a cylindrical ring provided with exterior grooves and which is connected to a stopper with a pouring outlet moulded in a single piece with the ring, these two elements being joined by a zone of least resistance.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the head and the body of the device are moulded in a single piece.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the neck of the bottle on which the device is intended to be placed has, above the fixing means of the said device, a cylindrical restriction on a shoulder, to allow the ring to be accommodated.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a section of the body of a device for fixing on the neck of a bottle, before the closing of the device onto the bottle.
Figure 2 shows a section of the same elements after the closing operation, i.e. after disconnection of the attachment points of the ring and stopper as a result of tightening.
The capsule device 1 has its head 1' moulded in a single piece and is provided on its interior with means which allow it to be fixed by a screw thread 1 3, to a catch rim, screw thread or the like, on the exterior of the neck 1 2 of the bottle receptacle.
Apart from the securing means, the interior upper part of the capsule 1 comprises a cylindrical skirt 6 with vertical interior grooves (not shown) coupled to a member 2 comprising a cylindrical ring 5 with exterior grooves and moulded in a single piece with, on the interior, a member 2, such as a cap or a pouring mouth-piece, connected to the ring 5 by a zone of least resistance in the form of a thin web 3.
The pieces which make up the device are made of plastic material.
The upper part of the neck 12 of the bottle presents in section a cylindrical restriction 4 after a shoulder 11 situated above the fixing means such as screw thread 14; this restriction 4 is intended to accommodate the member 2 which is engaged in the neck 1 2 of the bottle by its skirt 10.
The design of each of the pieces enables a very high frequency automatic assembly, promoted by: The difference between the exterior diameter of the ring 5 and the interior diameter of the threads 13 of the capsule 1.
The configuration of the lower part of skirt 6 of the capsule 1 which help to centre the rings, and hence the member 2.
The absence of friction of the grooved parts 5 and 6 which allows the ring 5 to be retained in the interior of the capsule without excessive tightening having to be provided.
When the two pieces are assembled, the unit 2is self-contained in the interior of the capsule 1; it can therefore not detach itself from its ring.
When the unit 2 is positioned in the neck 12 of the bottle, after being disconnected from the ring 5 (see Figure 2) due to the initial rotation of the device 1 relative to the bottle which acts to shear the web 3, and when the capsule 1 is screwed on the neck of the receptacle, the sealing systems move progressively into place: The central boss 8 of the capsule 1-1' moves to shut off the orifice 9 of the unit 2.
The circular interior rim 7 of capsule 1-1' comes to rest on the face of the unit 2 thus providing a second seal.
Claims
1. A sealing and pouring device intended to be fixed on a receptacle containing a liquid product, characterised in that one of the members of the device has in its interior upper part a cylindrical skirt provided on its interior face with vertical grooves, which mate with exterior grooves on a ring, connected to a second member of the device in a single moulding, by a zone of least resistance.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 characterised in that the head and the body of the device are moulded as a single piece.
3. A device according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the neck of the bottle on which the device is intended to be used presents in section, above fixing means, a cylindrical restriction on a shoulder, to allow the said ring of the second member to be accommodated.
