Abstract
A lock device comprises a door lock 1 and a cylinder lock mechanism 2 attachable thereto for transmitting operating force from a key operating said cylinder lock mechanism to said door lock via a turnable force transmission member 4 connecting said cylinder lock mechanism to said door lock. The device includes means allowing adjustment of the distance between the cylinder lock mechanism and the door lock. One or several detachable extension members 7 enclosing the force transmission member form an extension of the outer housing 3 of the cylinder lock mechanism in a direction towards the door lock. The dimension in this direction of each extension member is a small part of the length of the force transmission member, which length is reducible to a value suitable for the actual mounting distance between the cylinder lock mechanism and the door lock. For the adjustment of the attachment of the cylinder lock mechanism to the door lock as well as for the protection of the force transmission member over its total length, a required number of said extension members 7 are mounted between the cylinder lock mechanism and the door lock. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Lock device
The invention reiates to a lock device comprising a door lock and a cylinder lock mechanism attachable thereto for transmitting operating force trom a key operating the cylinder lock mechanism to the door lock via a force transmission member connecting the cylinder lock mechanism to the door lock, which device includes means allowing adjustment of the distance between the cylinder lock mechanism and the door lock.
Mortised door locks are used in doors of different thickness. When a cylinder lock is attached to operate the door lock, its proper mounting does not allow variations in its position relative to the door surface. In order to protect against burglary, the cylinder lock mechanism must be well protected and have a strong attachment to the door lock. Differences in door thickness makes it difficult to fulfil these requirements.
The present invention seeks to provide a cylinder lock and door lock connecting arrangement, in which only one basic type of cylinder lock mechanism and one type of connection member have to be used in doors of different thickness. The invention also seeks to provide a simple force transmission member, the length of which is easiiy adjustable to suit a given door thickness. The invention further seeks to provide a firm attachment of the cylinder lock to the door lock irrespective of the door thickness.
According to the invention there is provided a lock device comprising a door lock, a key-operated cylinder lock mechanism, a turnable force transmission member for transmitting operating force from a key operating the cylinder lock mechanism to the door lock, and at least one extension member capable of at least partly enclosing the force transmission member and of forming an extension of the cylinder lock mechanism in a direction towards the door lock, the dimension in said direction of the or each extension member being a small part of the initial length of the force transmission member, which initial length is reducible to correspond to the distance between the cylinder lock mechanism and the door lock when mounted in the door, whereby, to provide for the firm attachment of the cylinder lock mechanism to the door lock as well as to provide for the protection of the force transmission member at least substantially over its entire length as mounted in the door, a required number of said extension members are mountable between the cylinder lock mechanism and the door lock.
In a favourable embodiment of the invention, the adjustment of the length of the force transmission member is arranged by providing it with lines of weakness (e.g. in the form of a sharp transverse groove, perforation lines or the like).
The lines of weakness are suitably arranged at intervals corresponding substantially to the mounting thickness of one extension member. The cylinder lock mechanism and the extension members suitably have radial guiding portions, for instance a collar and a depression, in order to provide exact positioning and firm interconnection of the cylinder lock mechanism to the (or the closest) extension member and good positioning and interconnection between the individual extension members in an array of such extension members. The extension members desirably also have means preventing rotational movement of one extension member relative to an adjacent extension member or relative to the cylinder lock mechanism. These rotation preventing means may be in the form of interconnecting depressions and protrusions.
A detachable and reliable connection of the force transmission member to the cylinder lock mechanism can be achieved by providing the force transmission member with toothed connection surfaces dimensioned to fit into a connection portion of the cylinder lock mechanism, which preferably is provided with resilient connection means, such as a spring clip or the like gripping the connection surfaces. The pitch of the toothed connection surfaces preferably corresponds to the pitch of the lines of weakness in the force transmission member.
That end of the force transmission member, which is remote from the cylinder lock mechanism, may be provided with a guiding member dimensioned for radial cooperation with a guiding member on the extension member most remote from the cylinder lock mechanism.
One embodiment of lock device in accordance with the invention, will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective, exploded view of the lock device.
Figure 2 is a side view of a part of the cylinder lock mechanism and the force transmission member of the lock device shown in Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is an axial cross-section of one of the extension members used in the lock device of
Figure 1.
In Figure 1, reference numeral 1 indicates a door lock, to which a cylinder lock mechanism 2 comprising a stationary housing 3 and a turnable connection portion 5 is attached by means of screws 12 passing through openings 21 in the door lock 1 and being received in corresponding threaded bores (also numbered 21) in the cylinder lock housing 3. A key (not shown) insertable into the housing 3 to operate the cylinder lock mechanism 2, generates a torque, which is transmitted to the door lock 1 by a force transmission member 4, detachably connected to the connection portion 5 of the cylinder lock mechanism 2. The force transmission member 4 is enclosed in a duct jointly formed by openings 22 in a chosen number of extension members 7 mounted between the housing 3 of the cylinder lock mechanism 2 and the door lock 1.Each extension member 7 has a pair of through-bores
(also numbered 21) for the screws 12. The force transmission member 4 is provided with a plurality of equally spaced apart V-grooves 1 7 to form lines of weakness 10 therealong. The length of the member 4 can easily be adjusted by breaking it at the position of a selected line of weakness 1 0 defined by the bottom of one of the grooves 1 7.
The portions 6 between adjacent lines of weakness 10 may be about 3 mm in length, and this dimension preferably corresponds to the mounting thickness D (see Figure 3) of each extension member 7. There is a circular collar 13 on each extension member 7. The collar 13 of one extension member 7 is dimensioned to fit into a circular depression 14 in the opposite side of another extension member 7. For preventing rotational movement of the extension member(s) 7, each has an interconnecting protrusion 1 5 and a corresponding recess 11 (see Figure 3). The face of the housing 3 confronted by an extension member 7 also has a recess 16. The grooves 17 in the force transmission member 4 give rise to teeth 1 7a on all four sides thereof. When the member 4 is received in a groove 20 in the connection portion 5, a spring clip 1 8 locates in the first complete groove 17. The pitch of the teeth 1 7a of the toothed side faces corresponds to the mounting thickness D of each extension member 7. At the door lock end of the force transmission member 4, a circular guide head 23 is provided which is dimensioned to locate in the opening 22 of the extension member 7 which is furthest from the lock housing 3. A flat end member 11 is provided on the head 23 to project therebeyond and is designed to locate in a corresponding slot (not shown) in the operating mechanism of the door lock 1.
The dimensions of the groove 20 in the connection portion 5 and the dimensions of the spring ring 18, correspond to the width dimensions M and N of the force transmission member 4. The number of extension members 7 and the overall length L of the force transmission member 4 are determined to suit the actual mounting distance between door lock 1 and the housing 3. Preferably at both ends of the force transmission member 4 there should be an axial connection clearance sufficient for allowing some unavoidable deviation from the theoretical mounting dimensions.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment described, but several modifications thereof are feasible within the scope of the attached claims.
Thus, for example, the lines of weakness 10 need not be provided by grooves but by perforations.
