Spindle apparatus; spindle-driving apparatus. - A spinning or doubling spindle 1 is supported in a bearing 2 and is driven by a member 5 which frictionally engages the conical part 4 of a wharl 3. The drive is transmitted through a carrier 7 which is fixed to the spindle 1 and supports the bobbin 8, while springs 10 coiled around guide-pins 11 are inserted in holes 9 in the member 5, and, being compressed between the carrier 7 and the said member, strengthen the frictional connection between the members 4, 5, the greater part of the weight of the spindle 1 and the bobbin 8 acting as a load for this purpose.
